Hello everyone. After lurking here for a week I decided it was time to register so I can ask my inevitable questions. I found this site while searching for info on the gun laws in this lovely state of ours(which actually seems to be a common theme for new members to this site, I wonder why?). I've been interested in guns for many years now, but I just recently purchased my first gun and I'm sure it won't be my last.

I've been lurking off and on for the last couple years but I finally decided to start an account and participate a little.

As for me, well, I'm probably the only woman in the San Francisco-Berkeley corridor who believes the 2nd amendment isn't for just for militias, the National Guard or not applicable to modern, urban, city living.

I'm really impressed by the crowd on here and just want to say thanks to everyone who's made this website so informative and friendly.

I hope everyone's new year is off to a great start.

Hello everyone,
I just wanted to say Hi! I think this is a great forum. I live in the bay area and I'v been invovled with firearms for nearly 13 years now. Yeah, I know Cali gun laws puts a hamper on things, but I grew up in New York City where guns are not allowed at all. So living in Cali is not all that bad. Be safe and see you at the range.

Hey all,

I think I stumbled onto this site when trying to figure out what the heck an "OLL" was. Anyway, I saw all the valuable information and I was hooked. Had to break my general rule of not joining forums and now I browse this thing every day. I think my wife's not too happy about it, but she may get a nice priced 9mm out of it to take to Front Sight

Been a lurker for awhile, lots of valuable info here. I'm the owner/publisher of Jesse's Hunting & Outdoors, an online hunting and fishing website. Love to shoot .45s and squeaks. Originally from Mizzurah but ended up in Kali-fornya while in the USAF.

Am surprised as to the number of Bay area people that have joined up. I guess when I travel to San Jose, San Mateo, SF, etc., I don't seem to run into many firearm enthusiasts at my techno-geek work meetings

Recent transplant from Texas to california, learning all about gun laws which honestly, never knew we had any growing up in NE Texas other than no automatics allowed and no hunting with an unplugged shotgun. That was it, age thing didn't really matter that much either, since always hunted as a kid with whatever was available. Maybe kids are more stupid nowadays.

Just now starting to get back into the hobby with recent purchase of .17 Remington Fireball, Marlin 45-70, and FN 5-7. Soon to be an AR like thing and an FN SLP if Hector helps me out at CWS

Great lurking here with all of the great info and diverse crowd. I am part of the crowd that believes scuba gear or inflatable raft might be more helpful for WTSHF rather than a well stocked armory.

Hello. I imported from the free state of Utah almost 8 years ago(filled out less paper work to buy my first gun there than I did my first Keg here go figure). I have not been into shooting much since I moved here cause I didn't know anyone that was into shooting. A friend recently started getting back into and I got the bug again. Love your site, been looking around for the last few days. You have alot of good info.

Hello everyone. My name is Bryan, I live in the East Bay. I have been around guns my whole life. My father was a hunter early on in his life, and shared his love of guns and the outdoors with me and my brother. I inherited all his guns and very much enjoy shooting them, although I don't get out to the range often enough.

I current own/take care of 2 Springfield 30-06 rifles, a Browning Lightning O/U 12 Ga. shotgun, a couple of .22 rifles, a 9mm German Luger, and a Ruger Bearcat .22lr pistol. I'm in the market for a semi-auto Springfield Armory pistol of some sort. Came here looking to do some research and do some reading about the recent law changes.

Anyway, great site you guys got here with some really good information.

Howdy All,
I'm new to Calguns, but not to firearms or other forums. Some of you might have seen my "username" on various firearm forms.

My specialities are building AK-47 type rifles and providing helpful information (to others) on this subject as well as other firearms.

As I live in a "FREE" state, I always think about those who don't and applaud those who "Fight the Good Fight". Perhaps someday, equal rule under the Constitution will apply to "ALL" states.

God Bless You All...

Hi y'all, I'm another NorCal person (East Bay, specifically). I was raised on a ranch, and went shooting with my dad a great deal as a kid; when I went away to college, however, I lost touch with the shooting world.

Now, years later, I live in a city, but am rediscovering the joy of shooting. My dad passed away last year, unfortunately, but I inherited several of his guns: handguns include a S&W 686 .357 mag in stainless, a Colt Python (blued) .357 mag, a beat up old Herters single-action .22 (in poor shape and headed for the Oakland gun buyback this weekend). In long guns: a Marlin .35 lever action, a Winchester .30-30 commemorative Wells Fargo carbine, and a beat up old break-action Stevens-Savage 12 ga.

I've also just bought a Browning Buckmark .22, since I'd like to get back into shooting and figure I should start with the basics. I'm fortunate that my girlfriend just completed her NRA basic pistol course (she took it from her mom, an NRA life member, in CT!), and taught me the basics of grip, stance, sight picture, etc.

I'd eventually like to incorporate firearms training into my women's self-defense group. Lots of the women in our classes are interested in discovering and demystifying shooting. We did a group "day at the range" at Jackson Arms recently, and I think we have some budding shooters after that experience.

I have one month left to live in a free state. Then I must move to the heart of the left coast, San Jose. Woe is me. So now I must find out about all the socialist laws regarding firearms so that I can bring as many of my toys with me as I can.

I think that one of the best ways to introduce yourself to new people is to insult the place that they live....

Most of us actually like California. We don't particularly care for the gun laws, but we're working to change that.

So, welcome, help us and become part of the solution, instead of a member of the whining many who are just part of the problem.

We have a good following of people that get together in the San Francisco bay area. Get to know us and lose the attitude it might just be fun. I dont know about anyone else but I always seem to get what I want here legally. But then again I only want legal stuff.

A mod suggested I introduce myself. I posted an article "fbi/hermosa beach" and been trying aid people in seeing that were headed for a communist country.

Whats even more interesting is when i did a search on L.A. times website for this story, nothing came up!!!!!!??

I am applying for a gun permit to get into rifle range shooting & eventually competitions.

I also will do some handgun comps also. My home defense gun will probably be a springfield XD .45 whats your thoughts on that gun?

This is a firearms forum, not a general political forum.
If you want to discuss firearms or the political and legal issues concerning the 2nd Amendment you are more than welcome and we look forward to hearing more from you.

If you are looking for a soap box for your chosen agenda then you may want to look elsewhere. There are plenty of forums out there dedicated to general politics and views, I'm sure they would be better suited for what you mentioned above.

Greetings to all, time to sign in at the home front. Been obsessed with guns and their history since my dad took me to Golden State Arms in Pasadena in 1954. Anyone remember them? Anyhow, I remember when to be a Californian was to be the envy of all, now I go to the Reno Show and other collectors tell me how sorry they are at the state of affairs here, and why do I stay? I've been really pi**ed off since '89, when I had to send off my SP-1, HK-93, AK, because registration was NOT an option. This is f***ing America fer Christ's sake! Sorry for the rant, it just bothers me, "cause I remember how it used to be. Hope we can do some good.

Hi, I've been lurking via the RSS feed for a while now and I figured I should introduce myself.

I've been shooting since I was a scout and enjoy hunting and tracking. I've been almost exclusively a long gun guy for most of my life, but recently I've started making an effort to improve on my pistol skills.
