Here's mine, 1911 Tac. Duracoated frame OD green, duracoated slide matte black. Filed down all the edges (not too aggressively, just enough to smooth it up), Wilson Combat trigger, Wilson Combat thumb safety.

The logo is still there. I will attempt to take a better pic with my Nikon D90 after I learn how to use the thing.

My collection of Rock Island Armory pistols...
.45 ACP "Basic" 1911
.45 ACP "MEU-SOC Inspired" 1911 .45 ACP "Custom Duty" 1911 9mm "Limited Class" 1911 .45 ACP "Custom Compact" 1911 All of these pistols were modified by Mark Bunach, the Orange County Gunsmith (www.ocgunsmith.com/) and refinished by Mac's Shootin' Irons (http://www.shootiniron.com/). Rock Island Armory pistols are a great platform to build customized 1911 pistols from. I use RIA 1911 pistols for work carry as an armed security professional, as an armed civilian for home defense, and as a recreational shooter for competition. RIA 1911 pistols really are the best "bang for the buck"! --1911ShooterPhil

Replace the factory sights...
Quote:
Check this out: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=2...TCH-REAR-SIGHT Good, solid combat style sight. This is a good front sight: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=8...TO-FRONT-SIGHT Get the wide-tenon sight so the gunsmith can fit it. It is better to do oversized than undersized, because you can always remove material, but you can't add material where there isn't any. I hope these suggestions help. These sights are "drop in". Anything else will require gunsmith labor for cutting front and rear dovetails. I have done that on most of my guns, but that will cost you extra. Just be aware of that. Semper Fi! --1911ShoterPhil

Looks sharp! Ya'll have some nice pieces. It's amazing how much something as simple as grips, makes the gun look so much nicer. I love my tactical.

Mark Bunach 1124 West Chapman Avenue Orange, CA 92868 (949) 306-2028 Get the sights from Brownells so he doesn't have to order them and he'll just charge you for the labor. Orange is a bit of a drive from the 951 area code, but it is worth the travel. I have trusted all of my 1911s to Mark. --1911ShooterPhil

Picked up my own Tactical full-size a couple months ago. Love it. Stuck some slim grips on it... what else to change, what else to change!

sub 3" groups at 50 yards is possible
Just worked up this into a real nice bullseye gun. Took the existing barrel and had it welded up, and refitted it, added a new bushing, link and slide stop, flat main spring housing, new trigger, scope rail, grips and red dot. Smithed all the other existing parts all for about $950.00 3.5lb clean trigger and the right reloads and It's going to be shot at the next match I attend. |

Off topic question guys.... I just got my RIA and I bought aluminum blazer ammo TMJ and some how every 2 mags I get a jam- The slide does not go all the way forward - it clears easy and there are no marks on the ammo.
Would this be ammo issue? Any info would be appreciated FYI i'm using the original mag that came with the gun |

most of the time with ANY semi auto pistol the MAGAZINE is the culprit

I use Chip McCormick Shooting Star Classic magazines, PSI ACT MAG, Wilson Combat Wilson-Rogers magazines, and Chip McCormick 10-round Power magazines. All of them work quite well in all of my Rock Island Armory 1911 pistols. The magazine is the heart of any semi-automatic pistol when it comes to fuctioning. I know these magazines work well and would recommend them to all of you.

Here's mine so far:
Still got a few things I wanna do to it but overall just trying to keep it a cheap and fun shooter as well as learning the gunsmithing side of the 1911. The drop in beavertail didn't fit quite as well as I hoped but I decided to just use it for now. I also kinda messed up cold bluing the logo but eventually i'm planning on having the gun reparkerized anyway. |
