I'm filing through Murrieta PD.

They require a psych test which I did today. Shrink said she sees no problems.

Basically I completed all my steps from MyCCW.org checklist about a month after I filed my application for CCW. The next step is for my background investigator to compile my paperwork and submit to the approving authority (Murrieta PD Chief). Seeing how quick my BI did things, I should expect a final decision within 30 days.

It cost $710 all told through myccw.org but if I factor in time off work (vacation time = money) to drive to Riverside for appointments if I go through the RCSD route, I think it's $710 well spent.

Excuse me but earlier in this thread you said you went the pre-approved route (this is your second go around with RSO), they set up a range date of Sept 8th, 2018 but you cancelled it on Sept 7th cause you didn't get a letter or phone call regarding approval. So now you're hanging in the wind sorta speak. Don't you think it would've looked better if you just qualified and waited for the results?

i think murrieta said he should have gone preapproval route this go around, i might be wrong, anyways, it doesn't matter.. Kinda of sucks everyone has to stress to get one while other states just hand them up... bad guys don't even apply so again, being a good guy is very hard and sucks..

we're here for your mueritta42, spelled it wrong sorry! it's an emotional process... everyone here has bought their guns legally and that alone says a lot..

Picked up my permit today!

In case any one is interested this is how my timeline went:
August 30, 2017 requested a date and was given June 26, 2019
Received a call mid August and was told I can be moved up to Sept 18, 2018

Interview 9/18/18
Live scan 9/28/18
Qualification 9/29/18 - Went through Johnnie B Woods since I was able to get in a class faster and he doesn't charge to have more than two firearms on your permit. Don't know if others actually charge, but I heard they do.
Permit ready email 10/9/18 and picked it up today

I honestly have no idea. I know a few people that seem to have been called randomly out of order. I had emailed them a few times before to check on an earlier date so maybe I just annoyed them enough they push up my date.

When I check on my live scan results it showed that they were completed on 9/29. The only thing I can think of if that since Iím a nurse Iíve had numerous live scans. Maybe three in the last two years? So Iím wondering if that played a factor into anything.

I'm a contractor, work on military bases and VA hospitals, and get my background check done an average of 6-8 times per year, did not affect me. Application to CCW in Riverside County time was 3 months. Sheriff Sniff hired additional people who are handling the backlog, great guys at the CCW unit and at the Ben Clark range.

Called for an appt on Monday the 8th but got a voicemail, left one.
Haven't gotten a call back yet- is it typical to get a voicemail, left a voicemail, then get a call back? If so, how long?

Erik I meant the time it took for my live scan to clear, not the whole process. It was just weird to see my live scan complete after only one day.

I would email them. I always felt like they were easier to reach through email.

You are referring to the process for Murrieta PD. This thread is for the Riverside Sheriff process, which is different. RSO does not require a psych exam (as it shouldn't). Also, RSO is a LOT cheaper to get than a CCW for Murrieta.

Quick question about application....I'm new here, so hope this is the proper way to ask. On the DOJ form there is a space for details of reason for applicant desiring a ccw. Is this the space for the good cause statement, or are folks adding an addition separate page to address good cause.

thanks in advance

Yes, and yes. That space is for your good cause statement but there is nothing to keep you from adding a supplemental page with pictures, etc.

Murrieta PD issued CCW is possible only with the approval of the Riverside Sheriff. It's an alternative to the RCSD process which Murrieta residents should know.

Murrieta has independent statutory authority to issue without sheriff approval. If Murrieta wanted to defer to the sheriff to handle Murrieta licenses, the sheriff might have to agree.CA PEN 26155
Quote:
26155.
(a) When a person applies for a license to carry a pistol, revolver, or other firearm capable of being concealed upon the person, the chief or other head of a municipal police department of any city or city and county may issue a license to that person upon proof of all of the following:
~SNIP~
(c) Nothing in this chapter shall preclude the chief or other head of a municipal police department of any city from entering an agreement with the sheriff of the county in which the city is located for the sheriff to process all applications for licenses, renewals of licenses, and amendments to licenses, pursuant to this chapter.
This is repeated in CA PEN 26150(c)
Quote:
(c) (1) Nothing in this chapter shall preclude the sheriff of the county from entering into an agreement with the chief or other head of a municipal police department of a city to process all applications for licenses, renewals of licenses, or amendments to licenses pursuant to this chapter, in lieu of the sheriff.
(2) This subdivision shall only apply to applicants who reside within the city in which the chief or other head of the municipal police department has agreed to process applications for licenses, renewals of licenses, and amendments to licenses, pursuant to this chapter.

Thatís true, but it might help to clearly delineate the requirements which are City of Murrieta-specific to keep the two separate.

First, this isnít true at all. The processes are independent of each other. Second, this thread is for the CCW process through the Riverside Sheriff. If a separate thread doesnít already exist for Murrieta, then create one. But this isnít the place to talk about the Murrieta CCW process.

Default Ben Clark Facility

I'm going to my CCW gun safety class at the Ben Clark training center this Saturday.

I've never received info on exactly where to meet for the Saturday class. Do I meet the instructors at the range at 8 am and is there a classroom there?

Any help on where to meet would be greatly appreciated!

I did a write up here. Here is a great video on the CCW training at Ben Clark. BTW, are you sure it is this Saturday? Ben Clark CCW Training is usually the first Saturday of the month.

So it for sure has increased in frequency at Ben Clark. At least 3 Saturdayís a month. The instructors were putting in to cover 3 saturdays.

Does anybody know the fees for ben clark? I remember him saying 100 but what are the fees for additional firearms? I'll be putting 5 on mine I need to know how many more checks I need to bring for each firearm.
I did look on the pdf of the both apps and checked ben Clark's site but did not see it or missed it.

Each interviewer does it differently. Mine (Feliciano) had me scan it and email it; others have you drop it off at Ben Clark.
