Default The upcoming Big Game draw.... I'm doomed

So, my hunting buddy had X3a all scoped out, and we were going to put in for that. I had another buddy that seems to have X9b figured out, so that was my alternate plan. Consequently, I did no homework at all on any zones, because my choices were settled.... I thought.

For various work and personal reasons, I didn't get around to applying for the draw until today, and during the process I got sidetracked by work. Good thing, too..... I was moments away from selecting X3a and making the payment, when I got a text that he had gotten a draw in Nevada and was not going to put in for a CA tag. The fellow that had X9b scouted called a week ago to say he was backing out because of a pending shoulder surgery, so X9b was out, too.

The good news is that I didn't put in for zones that I don't know anything about, but the bad news is that the draw deadline is coming up in about a week and I don't have a backup plan.

I guess I'll just put in for the point and try A zone again.

If you have enough points, put in for X9a. Better than X9b. I can mention a few places.

Well.......... now there's an idea. I don't think I have enough points, but my best friend has a condo in Mammoth Lakes. Never scouted for deer there, but I'm pretty familiar with the layout and most of the dirt and jeep roads.

Please, if you have a moment PM me a few suggestions. I'll put in for that zone and see what happens. Worst case, I get another point for next year.

Thanks!

bbm, I'll do just that when I get back at the house; about 3 pm or so.
No problem.

I was in for X3a until the party I was going with started moving the goalpost and adding members.

I found out you can get your choices changed but it will take a day or two. Not much time left.

I am now in for X2. If you have 7 points or more I would be happy to share my scouting reports. I plan on doing a lot of scouting.

So generous..... I don't have 7 points or more, so I'll save that favor for another time.

Unless things have changed drastically in X9A, this is your answer. I can direct you to some spots as well.

Before anyone PMs me, I'm making the offer to BBM.

Thank you, Eric.

I also want to say thanks in general to everyone that replied and offered to help. I opened this thread just to let off some steam over the frustration of having hunting buddies bail on me at the last minute, and in no way was I even thinking about soliciting help on specific zones. But, several of you stepped up and offered some "inside baseball" on specific zones and areas, and I just wanted to publicly say Thank You. Whether I get drawn or not remains to be seen, but that does not diminish the spirit in which advice was given.

It is a good thing when hunters help each other, and I will pay this forward..... you have my word on that.

This is how a hunting and gun community is supposed to work.

Good luck BBM.
