"Mini 14 experts"...

Calling CD, calling CD, hello CD.

Serious answer, Ruger factory.
Others hit and miss. YMMV

Edit add: john-masen-magazine-ruger-mini-14-223-remington-10-round-steel
These work fairly well in some Mini's. Again, YMMV.

In my experience with my rifle, Ruger mags work the best regardless of capacity.

I wont even consider aftermarket mags.

In my experience with my rifle, ProMag and John Masen 10rnd mags work perfect. Haven't got a bad one from either maker.

Lol, I had good luck with factory mags and Pro Mag 10 rounders. Remember it is the rifle that sucks, not the shooter or the magazines.

Have a handful of these and Like'em. I actually prefer the 10-rounders.

RUGER® MINI-14® 10RD 223 MAGAZINE
FACTORY MAGAZINE
Manufacturer: RUGER®

All I do is stone the bottom sheared edge of the locking block, where it interfaces with the catch lever. It comes sharp, and will hang up and not seat properly.

Hit it with a small stone or file to dull it like a butter knife, and it should work flawlessly. All of mine now do.

The springs are also pretty stiff, and will take a while to break in. Load with the bolt open until it gets a little exercise, otherwise, it will crush the top round.

And remember, it is a good Carbine. . . that requires Marksmanship and shill to shoot well.

No buffers, and heavy moving parts.

Good shooting positions will negate that.

Tapco now makes a Mini-14 magazine and they work great for me, no issues.

Otherwise, factory.

Factory only. Aftermarket is trash for the Mini.

I've had good service with Promag magazines but I think Ruger mags are more durable.

Friend in the free state of AZ has some and they run very well in my Mini.

Yes, mine are 30's and they run like tops. They even have anti-tilt followers which the coveted Ruger OEM mags lack. While they may not be much of an option in CA, at least there is something out there besides OEM that isn't "trash."

P.S. When is the tarring and feathering of Bill Ruger going to end? Good grief..

Same here, but OR. I think Tapco would sell tons more even in free states if they made a short 10rnd mag.

The tar and feathering will never end because people don't understand he was fighting a total ban of semi autos. Had he not did what he did all semi autos would probably have been banned.

As others have pointed out, non-factory mags for Minis are mostly really bad. Promag can sometimes be OK at best. But sometimes really bad. Ruger factory mags are good but crazy expensive.

Tapco 30 rounders are in fact the best Mini-14 magazines available. Plastic mags much like Magpul Pmags but with steel reinforcement at the pin retention point. They are way better than anything out there.

Of course this is California, so the only way to get them is if you can find a vendor that sells them like this:

http://jesticearms.com/Tapco-Front-R...-5.56-Magazine

(They are out of stock, I think for good. But you could ask them.)

I heard that some of the trouble with mags was trying to put them in on a closed bolt...Is this true?

I asked them at SHOT last year about short 10 round for our state and they looked at me like I was insane.

Apparently that company was sold to some big outfit (Freedom?) and they said their R&D Budget was slashed.

I was on their website yesterday and they have a Blocked 30 rounder that only holds 5?

I also asked Magpul which is the outfit that should be doing this, and they also looked at me like I was insane. "Nobody buys Mini14's any more,,," was what they told me,,, and then showed me their new G17 mags, Like there isn't enough Glock mags already out there?

My gun was slightly used when I bought it and it came with a 10 round Pro*Mag. It has never ran either 9 or 10 rounds successfully without a malfunction.

Even my 2nd gen Tapco mags have had problems, the interior length needs to be about .030-.060 longer so normal COAL cartridges that are 2.250 don't jam up in the inside.

Only totally reliable mags have been Ruger 20 round.

I'm no expert but I have a Mini.

The Promags I have needed tweaking but I don't really use them anymore. Ruger mags have always worked for me. I'd buy Magpuls if they made them.

Only factory mags I have is 5rnd factory mags they work perfect. My Mini hasn't been very picky and it has been used with quite a few different makes of mags over the years without any reliability problems from them.

You mean like the same thing that happens with AR-15 magazines that may not seat fully if fully loaded?

When the spring is fresh, a fully loaded 10-round Factory mag will crush the top round against the bottom of the bolt if loaded with the bolt in battery.

As stated, they soften up after a little exercise.

I recently emailed magpul if they had any plans to make a mag for the mini 14. The reply was no. Sad face that.

I emailed Magpul awhile back to ask them if they were planning on coming out with a Hunter stock for the Mini-14. After about a month, they emailed back saying they couldn't discuss future development and production plans. I took that as a "no."

in 100 years the mini 14 might be a collector. The Mini will probably cease production in under 15 years. Cost too much for an inferior mouse caliber compared to the other mouse rilfe..by far

The CMP stated that they sold more M1 Garands to Citizens trapped within the Soviet Province of Californicatestan, far and away, than to any other free State or Soviet Province in the Country.

Given the limited and diminishing availability of $700 CMP M1 Garands, combined with the current tyranny w/r/t AR's and AK's within the Soviet Province?

. . . I'd say that the Mini-14 will be THE Carbine of the Soviet Province of Californicatestan for the foreseeable future.

Garand ammo is expensive ...how many donyou seenout in public shooting? Me....incredibly rare.

California has largest population. ..this is my suprised look that they bought the most m1s. Woop de doo

A neutered AR will far..far out sell any mini 14. You are high as a kite thinking mini14 will be some go to rifle. Id suggest you buy a thermomould machine and start maing the 10 round magazines and vibrators that hand off the barrels for minis.....you will be reech beach ..honk honk!

Thank you for morning laugh.

My SCR Lower enters Jail today. I will have it together in 10 days and we'll see if there is another decent alternative to the "Defiled AR."
