Default Whisky A Go Go on Sunset

Has anybody been to the Whisky lately? I have several friends' bands that are playing this year, and wondering if there are metal detectors, security screening, pat down, etc.

My suggestion is not to carry in a bar. Especially a bar scene like that one on Sunset. Too many opportunities for a mishap due to stupid intoxicated people. Leave your gun home or simply don't go there. Check with your issuing agency about alcohol and CCW. Mine does not allow any consumption of alcohol while carrying. Be responsible my man. The metal detectors are not the main issue here.

If you're licensed by San Bernardino:

Quote:

While exercising the privileges granted to the licensee under the terms of this license, the licensee shall not, when carrying a concealed weapon:

• Consume any alcoholic beverage.

*• Be in a place having a primary purpose of dispensing alcoholic beverages for on-site consumption.

The primary purpose of the Whisky A Go Go is not dispensing alcoholic beverages, so that law isn't relevant.

In my opinion, the type of clientele that the Whisky attracts is... less savory than that to which I am accustomed. I wouldn't go there just for that reason.

I used to go to the Whiskey when I was a kid (over 21) and they really seem to do quite a business selling alcoholic beverages.

Have things changed in the last 25 years?

Bingo.
Not sure how they work specifically, but places like the Marquee (now Jenna Jameson's strip club) the bands paid for stage time, and the cover charge paid the band (that's why they asked which band you were there to see when you went in).
But the primary business is to sell alcohol.

It calls itself a nightclub on its FB page, I don’t think your IA would be happy if you had an issue there.

I feel like your IA did a really poor job of explaining this to you. No you can't carry in a bar, let alone one of the most famous bars in California.

.

It's been a few years and most of my time was as a musician... not as a customer. All the clubs were doing pat downs and emptying pockets. A friend was asked to take his Kel-tec P32 back to the car. Loooooong walk.

The Whisky has changed their policy to be all ages welcome, not strictly 21 and over. That's why I was unsure, so I was asking if anyone had been there recently.

If in fact the above is true, by classification it cannot be considered a bar.
Am I missing something? I still wouldn’t go there though.

I'm not sure, but the mention of a bouncer checking for contraband answered my question.

I wouldn't usually go there myself, but I haven't seen some of my friends in 20 years. Plus, I may be able to roadie for a couple of the bands which is always fun.

I wouldn't carry there, that's enough of a bar that I wouldn't risk it, that said after the PULSE night club shooting, I'd prefer to carry if I could. This is a good one to research in detail, sorry I can't be of more help to you.

Been there. Wanded and hand pat down. I didn't carry there....

I did ask the security guy about it later when I stepped out for some air. He said if I had been carrying, they would have denied me entry...even with a permit.

I'm confused, which isn't unusual.

Can you fellers with CCWs from adjacent counties carry in Los Angeles County? but not L.A. City?

And is the Whiskey, although surrounded by L.A. City, in West Hollywood? and therefore County patrolled?

The permit is valid in any city or county within California.
It is prohibited in specific locations in any city or county within California.
One of those prohibited locations is an establishment that derives the majority of its revenue from the sale of alcohol for on-site consumption (bar, club, etc...)

They were wanding in the 80s when I saw White Tiger there.
