Default CCW in other state

When traveling in other states, am I allowed to carry a pistol that is not on my license? Im traveling to Kentucky and they honor CA CCW and my cousin has some pistols that I could use while there.

I'm pretty sure it goes by the law of the state where are are carrying. I think Kalifornistan is the only place that makes you list your pistols on the permit. But why not just call the sheriff's office or Kentucky's issuing agency and ask them?

Well with my many years of experience in using my California CCW License in other states where it is recognized, is that you are limited to the listed firearms on your license.

I travel yearly to Detroit, Michigan where I am originally from, and the Michigan State Police informed me of no additional weapons allowed. It is easy to fly commercially with a 'declared weapon' and ammunition in your checked luggage. Check the TSA website and the website for your airline.

The OP may want to call the State Law Enforcement Agency in Kentucky, before they get into some serious trouble by using a relatives firearm as a CCW weapon while using their State Of California CCW License.

If you are worried about it, get an AZ permit for cheap, use your CA CCW as proof of qualification. Then carry whatever you want in KY via the AZ permit

This is probably the simplest way.

CA LTC permit is only valid for the handguns that you are authorized to carry and are listed on your permit.

So carrying a handgun that is not listed, would mean your permit is not valid.

You carry permit needs to be valid for the other State to honor it.

When I fly the unfriendly skies and check my firearm, I never put the case inside my checked luggage, you are potentially asking for problems allowing the low level TSA junkies to pry thru ur luggage. I pay the extra money and check separately. It is picked up by ONE TSA agent and walked to a secure holding area, then hand delivered to the plane

Just because you possess an AZ CCW, that may not give you permission to carry in another state as a CA resident. Not all states accept reciprocity with AZ unless you are an AZ resident. AZ does have reciprocity with a total of 38 states, but that is to AZ residents that have a CCW. Please check the states you are travelling to and thru.

As mentioned, your CA CCW is only valid when you are carrying the listed pistols.

Also as mentioned, get another state CCW and carry what you want. AZ is a good one and easy to get since you already have CA, you can get AZ by mail with no extra class or training. Use the map at USACARRY to see who honors AZ non-resident permits.

I'm thinking of taking a gun on our next trip - just to assure my luggage arrives. We're taking one of their smaller planes on a cheap ticket so we are required to check our bags and only allowed 1 small carry on.

Use Google. And dont forget the laws of the *other* states in question. The definitive source for whether State B honors State As license is State Bs Penal Code.
