Thanks hutz and jessdigs. Appreciate you guys keeping us in the loop.

I suspect there was a big rush after Gunpocalypse last summer. They probably have limited resources to keep up with all the extra applications. Might take a little longer than usual…

More likely it's just that this county is well armed. If you pay attention when you drive around you'll see signs advertising CCW classes all over the place.

Default EL DORADO COUNTY CCW UPDATE

Per the deputy in records during my telephone conversation with them this morning, the El Dorado County Sheriff has stopped processing applications submitted on or after September, 2016 due to "staffing issues." The deputy informed me to call about in another month.

Whether the information provided by the deputy I spoke with is accurate, I cannot know. I am simply passing on what was conveyed to me.

I submitted my application in September, 2016.

I am disgusted.

Find similar counties to yours that have switched to online processing of new and renewal apps and pass that information along to your sheriff's CCW people with the suggestion they look into it to. It saves a lot of time, money and manpower for the sheriff, esp since renewals are handled entirely online.

Or you can just whine....

Interesting... if they are really that backlogged then why do they still let people apply? This now means most will have to redo their class.

I had to call EDSO because of this post. Renewals get taken into consideration with the available amount of appointments. There are no such issues with them only new permits.

FYI...

Just completed my initial interview with the EDSO and was also told to expect a 9 month wait.

Stupid me, I let my permit expire while I was out of the State last year.

Reapplied in October 2016 and was told 6 months. At 6 months I called and they said they were backlogged so it was now 9 months. It was 9 months yesterday and I'm hoping it will be under a year.

Once renewed I WILL mark it on my calendar to renew every 2 years. I have a AZ and UT and they send you renewal notices, but not ED County so make sure you make a note of it.

I've taken 2 re-qualifications from Shon Bright from Critical Response Firearms Training 916/847-5159. He does training/range work for Red Hawk Casino, so he has access to their range.

Shon is a really nice guy.

I went to Best Handgun Training, because they hold classes often, an you can sign up right before the class if you are available. I also got my 34 state through them while I was taking the El Dorado class, because the course satisfies the requirements, it just cost another $60 for the fingerprinting and certificate

Anyone have any word on the backlog that is going on? I am just hoping to make it before the end of the year so I don't have to do a full class again.

I just got my call last Thursday while I was out of town. Left her a message, hope she calls back Monday. It has been 10 months to the day for that call.

I just got back from my appointment. I forgot to take my course certificate so I need to call records next week, after they receive my paperwork from the Deputy today, and take that over to them.

BTW, the Deputy told me that yesterday he was working on applications from August and September; I applied in October.

Again, make sure everyone puts their renewal date on their calendar, you don't want to make the same mistake as me.

Also, if you have the time you can support the SO by attending their Citizens Academy: https://www.edcgov.us/Government/she...s_academy.aspx It's free!

I think EDSO is running into the same thing as SacSO - they've issued so many permits that just keeping up with renewals is eating up all their resources. I agree that the idea of an online permitting system (Sac let's them charge $14 - I'd gladly pay that IF it actually helped). Unfortunately, the online system hasn't done anything they promised it would do when they announced it in December. If D'Agostini looks at technology options, ask him to make sure his vendor can guarantee minimum processing levels.

I applied in mid-November last year, just got the call October 4th. The deputy I met with said it has been running right around 10 months pretty consistently.

I just finished my initial training class with Gunlady at Sac Valley this past weekend, took a two-day course. I must have shot close to 600 rounds over the weekend, so thumbs-up on that. Great training if you need to take an initial class or the refresher.

been a LONG time since I've been on, but yes this is normal for EDCounty. You don't bring it inside with you, they walk out to your vehicle with you and check the serial number to make sure it matches. That's all, but it is normal for them.

Default El Dorado *** TIME TO APPLY!!! ***

Here's my timeline; CCW course on 1/14/17, application submitted and appointment with detective around 1/20/17 with live scan done same day. Call from Sheriff's office for final interview 10/14/17, appointment made for 10/31/17, interviewed with sheriff, verify firearms serial numbers. CCW permit to be mailed and expected within two weeks or sooner.

Overall an easy process, and each sheriff representative (3) where all informative, extremely pleasant and helpful. Hope this gives everyone a more accurate timeline and journey to your CCW.
Good luck everyone.

Sounds exactly like mine. Sadly I was unavailable for two weeks to set up my final appointment. Less than two weeks for me.

What is the process for adding? Do I need to make an appointment to add a gun, or can I just show up?

I wanted to add one during my final appointment but he suggested to add after you get your permit in the mail otherwise wait another two weeks and another appointment then you will get your permit. Yes call to add after you get your permit, but not sure if you need a second verification from an FFL. I'll add to mine shortly after receiving and post the process.

I was told the same thing, except I got my permit at my second appt. They told me if I add it that day, I had to wait and they would mail the permit in a few weeks. He suggested that since I waited 11 months, that I take my permit and add my other gun later.
I was wondering do you bring the gun you are adding to the appt, and they mail the revised permit home?
I do have the dros form I can bring

Received my permit today, about 9 1/2 months for the entire process. It took 1 week to receive permit after my final interview.
