Level I Tactical Medicine Class Socal Oct 02
The course is designed as an introduction to basic emergency medicine and its tactical application. It will cover everything from field expedient CPR to initial emergency treatment of penetrating chest trauma.
Our goal is to provide every student with a basic understanding of basic and emergent situations and the appropriate treatments. Focus will be on: -The maintenance of the airway thru the use of manual/artificial airways -The treatment of major breathing injuries including treatment of gun shot and stab wounds in the chest with the use of occlusive dressings. -The treatment and management of life threatening/severe bleeding thru the use of pressure dressings, hemostatic agents, and tourniquets. Course Outline INITIAL PATIENT ASSESSMENT AND TREATMENT Primary Survey * The primary survey usually involves treating numerous casualties. * Procedures performed are for rapid life saving interventions. Primary Survey Steps * Area Security- ensure the area is secure before performing care. * Scene Size Up- quick analysis of the scene to determine what type of injuries to expect. * Determine Patients Responsiveness/AVPU Method. * Airway Assessment and Management * Breathing Assessment and Management * Circulation Assessment and Management SECONDARY SURVEY AND TRIAGE Secondary Survey * The secondary survey involves the identify and treatment all non-life threatening injuries not previously identified on the primary survey. * Systematic evaluation of the patient from head to toe utilizing visual signs and palpation. * As injuries are identified, proper treatment is rendered. * Typically performed after all threats have been controlled. Introduction To Tactical Triage * Principles of Tactical Triage * Triage Factors * Evacuation of the Casualties CONCLUSION AND FINAL HANDS ON PRACTICAL EXERCISE All instructors will be veterans of the military special operations (SEAL/SF/MARSOC/MARINE FORCE RECON) LEVEL I COURSES FEATURES SECTIONS FOCUSING ON: * Airway Injuries- Opening the airway, emergency airways, rescue breathing. * Chest Injuries- Identifying pneumothorax and Treating penetrating trauma including stab wounds and gun shot wounds with the use of occlusive dressings and needle decompression. * Hemorrhage Control- Identifying live threatening Bleeding and controlling it with the use of pressure dressing, tourniquets, and hemostatic agents. * Tactical Orthopedics- splinting, immobilization, and reduction of dislocations. * Environmental Injuries- heat injuries, cold injuries, snake/insect bites, and dive medicine * Casualty Assessment- AVPU Method, CPR, and Evacuation of Casualty * LEGAL IMPLICATIONS OF MEDICAL TREATMENT-Medical Treatment and the Law (Prepared exclusively for SOTS by Samuel Park, J.D.) Quick overview of the Good Samaritan Law-FAQ's, Case Studies, and Common Pitfalls Cost: $250.00 per person. Also remember, 1 family member is welcome at to attend with you at no additional cost. They must bring their own medical supplies or purchase them thru SOTS prior to the course.

The level II was fully booked up last week by a military unit that we had previously taught. Unfortunately for our civilian customers, military always has priority with SOTS. I will try to add a level II class in the Dec. timeframe if enough of our level I graduates are interested.

How about taking it to the next level up in NorCal, bet we can fill the class again. You and your team are more than welcome to stay here as well in case you want to call in some yotes later that night. |

Can Family Members attend? Yes you may bring one family member to the course at no cost to you. The family member must purchase the training supplies thru us though. |
