I worked with someone who was allowed in. After about 10 years his command paid for his surgery to have them closed. They looked pretty good, not as tiny as you would expect. He was a pretty stellar NCO, so I wouldn't completely preclude someone based on that after seeing that example.

The surgery is $1500, insurance won't cover it. Honestly when I was 18 years old the military was the last thing on my mind. I've made my mistakes and want to take control of my future. Thanks to the few with a positive outlook.

I knew this guy growing up his whole life a hippy. Then one day quits his job at the vitamin store and enlisted. Went OCS. Made it to Captain. Now he teaches High School Science.
You never know about people!

1500 is not that much for a lifetime reward of serving.
Get a temp job, save some money, sell off some things u won't need. This should only take about 3 months. Go to TJ and get some cheap surgery (not really advisable, but an option to save money) Best of luck! |

I work full time, but i'm paying a full paycheck and a half on rent and utilities. I don't spend frivolously and am currently hiding every last dime I can spare for the surgery. Helping myself isn't the issue, it's living paycheck to paycheck and barely scraping by as it is. Hence why i've started a go fund me. I need financial help.

Sorry, No.
I think it's extremely important that you work your way out of the mess you put yourself in. Prove you are not one of those people who expects someone else to bail you out. Get 2 jobs, get 3 jobs, collect bottles, sell everything you own, cut expenses whatever it takes. Not saying you do, but if you still have a smart phone and paying for internet service to post this message, you're not serious about it. You did, you fix it. |

Smart phones are completely an indulgence in the USA. The carriers here charge 3x what they do in places like Japan, and have horrible coverage compared to most first world countries. If you're blowing money on those, I agree, needs to get cut off.

My guess is this could be 'corrected' with a pair of wire cutters and a little 'courage', and would heal up in about 6 weeks.
Many people got 'no ear lobes' to begin with, which I consider less attractive, but must be better for cramming on tight helmets and other headgear. I remember some big 'scandal' about some USAF(?) badass unit graduates being 'hazed' by having their new badge's pins(a whole 1/4" long) being pressed into their chests and drawing a little blood. IIRC, these were supposed to be 'combat rescue' or something and expected to break their own legs behind lines and still be rescuing OTHER guys, etc. However, I highly recommend you take a day and spend a little quality time at your local vet's hospital and ask around, and look around, and take a big wiff of the smell and ask yourself, is THIS how and where I'd like to spend much of the rest of my life? Remember that BEFORE their service, those were all happy, healthy guys. |

Sorry, it doesn't sound like you have done anything for yourself other than build up the "courage" to ask for a handout. If you are "hiding every last dime" you at a minimum would need $1499.90 and not $1500. Did you sell off the jewelry that caused you this problem? Now at a minimum you should "only" need $1498.90 Is that you in the picture? Did you sell off the mic? Now at a minimum you should "only" need $1497.90 The guitar? Now at a minimum you should "only" need $1496.90 See how this works...? It's what adults deal with on a daily basis. Sorry if I come off as cold but most people have a sad story at some point in life. What have YOU done about this problem YOU have created for YOURSELF...? |

Hey heads up s a matter of ****ing fact. YES. the guitar was sold. and the mic well, it was a friends mic, I played the show as a benefit to raise money for his little brother who died of cancer... you know, giving a handout for those in need. Sorry you sound like a bitter prick, but it wasn't some huge **** up I created. I used to work in the body modification industry. Just so happens that's what I did for a living. That's no longer my means of an income. SO, now I'm seeking a different occupation. One I can be proud of, and one that just so happens that I need HELP getting into. Frankly **** off. |

I'm not bitter at all. Rather it would seem you are bitter. Ask for something, not get it, and in typical millennial mindset throw a little temper tantrum. It's just keeping you from doing what you want to do. This is the wrong attitude to have. Accept responsibility for your actions. It's what men do. Understand this. Right away. The military is so very much more than an "occupation". Shane, try to not be so short sighted that you don't realize people here actually are trying to help you. There's an interesting little story about this guy that was hungry. He was given a fish, and ate for a day. Later he was taught to fish, and ate for the rest of his life. Suppose you get the money you seek. Then what? Head down life's path until your next problem? Then back to kickstarter? You need to learn to fish. kids... |
