Lightest .300black out barrel is 24 ounces... I can still have a 4.5lb rifle in .300BLK

4.8lbs, KMR is 13" w/ 16" faxon pencil barrel and magpul sights. BCG is aim surplus LW and taccom buffer. I was planning to put the saber tube on there but decide to use it on my new build instead.

I think I'm going to stick with an adjustable gas block versus the gas key. Reason being id rather limit the gas going down the tube.

Anyone have an opinion on aluminum bolt carriers?

I would argue against using a mag tactical lower. I had one and it was lightweight but I had one of their proprietary trigger pins break at the range. I sold it off. It's not worth saving an oz or two with this lower. The KMR you have quoted should be a couple more oz's as well.

Hmm I know the regular KMR are hard to find and BCM doesn't even list a non alpha version in 10". The MilSpec pins will be short fitting into that lower.

yea i found a private party selling one in phoenix arizona brand new which was lucky...

are the mag tactical lowers wider at the pin areas in the fire control pocket? if its the same size pocket they should still work.

Very nice pick up then. The mag tact lower does have a wider area in the pins that's why they used proprietary pins. When mine broke I was able to use a regular pin for a short time but lost faith in the lower after that.

as long as the width of the pocket is the same it should be fine to use mil spec pins.. v7 weapon systems sells titanium pins that are extended for mag tactical lowers too if i decide i need them

Sounds like you have it covered but just wanted to put my .02 cents in on my experience. Looking forward to seeing the final product.

Weighed the Daniel defense grip today..

With the trigger guard cut off its 3 ounces, same as the ergo... I still may opt for the magpul gen 1 k grip if I can find a black one

why?

the hammer only rubs against(gets pushed down) it and only hits the firing pin.

the JP BCG works fine with any hammer

Reviews say that the steel hammer on an aluminum carrier is too much abuse and will eventually lose its reliability.. Polymer hammer I'm assuming takes that concern away..

i read there site , thats just cover your azz info
JP says the aluminum BCG is only good for 10,000 rounds
just as with anything when you gain something you loose something.

i had over 1,000 rounds thru mine (JP) and it only took of the coating using a 3gsd trigger

You're a smart man! and congrats on cutting that leach off! dump those cards.

I respect your decision. More planning in the meantime. I say aim for 3.5 pounds.

Vertex Ops has a small sale for the rest of May. I bought a lot of my parts there for my LW build. Wish they had this sale when I was collecting parts. Just wanted to share.

My LW build is 4 lbs and 9 oz with a Holosun RDS. Can't imaging getting under 4 lbs as I tried to cut weight as much as I can. I can probably save a couple oz with a much more expensive BCG. Could save a couple with a 10" rail as I went with a 12". I could also hollow out my Taccom buffer. But overall, I think I am good with the weight for now. You can click on the link in my Sig to my Instagram to see a photo of my build!

Through the rest of May 2016 SAVE 5% on these lightest weight AR parts from VertexOps.com to build or upgrade your weight killing upper receiver.

Sweet!

In other good news.. My upper got delivered today and even though the website advertises it as 5.85 ounces.. It weighed in at 5.5 ounces!!! So I saved .35 of an ounce without doing anything!!

After this you should try for a heavyweight AR build... see if you can make one > 25lbs without adding superfluous rail accessories. Anybody make stainless steel receivers?
