I like.

Is that a kit build, or a converted Saiga or something?

5.56 AK's are fun to shoot!

They're in demand for a reason you know.

When building an AK74 kit, what needs to be changed for 556 ammo besides the barrel?

Yes they are. I have a couple of the old style Galil's with milled receivers. Very smooth shooters. Every time I take one out someone tries to buy it from me.

Looking good!

How did you secure the top cover to the receiver?

Usually thatís all it takes. Sometimes you might need to modify the extractor claw to allow it to move inward a bit more to hold onto the smaller diameter rim of the 5.56 vs the 5.45.

Rarely you might need to massage the ramp of the bolt carrier whereís it rides over the rounds in the mag.

Thumbs up

Looks sharp, you run steel case ammo all day long - what's not to like.

I think I'd go cerakote, with a matte jungle green finish.

Thanks for that. I have a Bulgarian 556 barrel. Iíll address the extractor and ramp. Building a 545 and 556 side by side.

I found there are different magazines to use (hassle) but thatís part of the fun I suppose.

-barrel
-magazines
-possible extractor different
-possible ramp different

The best 5.56 mags for an AK74 5.56 build are the Bulgarian waffles. They can be spendy but are the best. Of course there’s that pesky mag ban...
