Default Add one more to the 1200+ yard 6.5 club.

A few friends convinced me and my son to come out and shoot 3 or 4 weeks ago to get out of the house for some fresh air. I got a new Athlon Argos BTR MILRAD 8-34x56 I wanted to try out so I put it on my Ruger Poverty Precision Rifle and we went out to our range. After I got it all dialed in and put a few hits on the 18" plate at around 920 ish yards my son asked if he could try. He has never shot past 225 yards before and that was with his Savage .22lr FVSR.

He got on the plate after 2 tries and then hit a bullseye on his third plate hit.
I did not expect him to hit at all.

We moved out to 1240 yards and after I got onto the plate I set the dials for wind and elevation so he did not need to use the holdovers. He hit on I think his 8th try in winds that I would not even bothered wasting ammo on.

A friend printed out his picture and took to to Cabelas where they displayed it by the rifles. I surprised Alex by taking him there and showing him the picture. Picture shows 1280 but I think it was closer to 1240 or 1250.

Not bad for an 11 year old first timer.
I'm going to work with him this fall to try to get both of us at 1 mile. I need to add more cant to the mount first.

That is awesome. A few more years before my little ones are ready and hope I will be able to share similar experiences with them. Good times

It is very clear up to about 26 power then it gets a little blurry from heat mirage and the glass quality. I shoot off a sled so it is not shaky. Off a bipod it is a little shaky but my personal method is to shoot on my exhale and when the cross hairs are centered. It takes a few breaths sometimes to get everything just right for the shot.

Congrats to you and your son.

I'm in the market for a bolt gun. It's getting harder and harder to buy anything else seeing what you guys are doing with the Ruger. Great work.
