Default Rosamond (AV) Cleanup {NEW}

I tried to reply to the "Rosamond (AV) Cleanup" thread but it's over 128 days old and the system would not let me reply to that thread...

Well, looks like there's some "F***ed" up S*** happening out in this area of Rosamond, on the public roads.

My neighbor went out there this past weekend to do a little shooting in that general area but not at the posted "No Trespassing" area. As he was driving out on the public dirt roads he hit a patch of "tacks" (lack of a better word) that was scattered all over this section of road. Once he noticed these 'tacks' it was way to late. His front tires took most of the 'tacks' but his rear tires got them too. He stopped the car in the road and looked on the ground. He told me that there was 100's if not 1000's of 'tacks' all over the road. He was able to back the car out the 'tacks' and he made it home (we live in Rosamond).

He called Kern County Sheriff Office and made a report of the incident. The Sheriff's Office told him that he was not the only one to report this. The Sheriff's Office told him that 3 Sheriff's cars and at least 6 POV have hit these 'tacks' in that area on the road. The Sheriff's Office already launched a full blown investigation to find out who is doing this.

Here's a few pictures of his tires...

Front drivers side

Rear drivers side

Front passenger side

Drivers side

He has to replace all 4 tires at a cost of about $600... That's a nice new gun now it will be tires...

Yeah, my father and I went out last month and he ended up with 2 flats in front. We tried to pick some up but those things are everywhere.

What road were you on?

I ask because my friend owns the Gravel Pit on Rattlesnake Road and if it is in that area, he may be interested in knowing about it.

I personally would love to own the equipment to be able dig large holes in the desert.

Okay, the area is known as Rattlesnake Rd. It is or was a very popular, well known shooting area out in Rosamond. The general location is West of the 14, between Rosamond Blvd and Dawn Rd. Google Earth Lat and Long...about 34*N53'23.31" and 118*W11'15.58"

Well that is not a good thing at all. I know there has been major problems out there with people leave massive amounts of trash and a dead cow or two out there...

While probably not the road, but I thought most of that area was private owned.

Did you report this to the Kern County Sheriff or the Mojave CHP office?

No, from what I hear around town, the owner is about to get his pants sued off of him. 30+ cars have received flats from out there.

You should have reported it but that's your call.

30+ DAMN! That's crazy! Do you know who owns this area? Is it owned by the Landsgard's (spelling?) I heard it was but just rumors and I never went to talk to Eric Landsgard over at Karl's Hardware in Rosamond or Mojave.

That is what I hear that the guy from Karl's Hardware owns that land or something like that.

I'm glad I haven't gone there in a while. I live on the east side so I started going somewhere closer to home. I haven't heard anything about this until now, but I'll be sure to let my friends know. Are we going to attempt a cleanup, or are we just going to wait and see if the guy gets in trouble?

Wow, there are a few of us "Rosamonites" on here. After reading all the stories about trouble shooting out here I have been going up to Mojave. I am in for a clean up though too.

Yup, I didn't know that there was this many people from Rosamond on here. I bet we've all seen each other a time or two around town, especially if you have kids involved in sports or just activities in Rosamond, even at Albertsons.

A clean up? Not sure if I want to risk the cost of my truck tires to clean up an area that the owner is causing more harm than good, you know what I mean. But, all in all I would do a clean up with everyone else!

Anyone in the AV ever thought about instead of cleaning that one that is such a problem instead just finding a good site and adopting it as a CGN "keep it cleaner than you found it" spot?

Haven't been out on any BLM land to shoot since I moved here but I'm looking for a good spot for me & my family. Teaching my kids the importance of leaving it cleaner than you find it is almost as important as the shooting itself.

Owner doing more harm than good????

I can guarantee that the owner isn't the one who spread nails out on the road.

Don't know what you are talking about claiming he is doing harm.

He allowed public use of his private property at great personal risk for many years. If anyone had accidentally shot themselves, or got hurt some other way while on his land, he could have been held liable.

It came to a head when people shot some cows and burned them at the range, used some Tannerite and started a wildfire, and also when some people were shooting clays with rifles (AKs and ARs) and were sending rounds over the hill and into his mother's house.

The cleanup efforts since the closing have been a way to show appreciation for all the years he put up with a group of shooters that unfortunately also included a bunch of idiots.

You are correct, I miss wrote. I should have not stated "owner", I apologize. What I know of the owner, he is a great guy who does a lot for the community and for 4H.

I know all the horror stories about the idiots who come up from LA and other areas to shoot in our backyard. Those shooters rarely clean up their brass, shotgun shells and trash.

When I used to go out there, I had my own shooting stand and targets. I did not and will not bring out TV's, computers, propane bottles and other trash. I always picked up my brass and shotgun shells a long with the other brass that I found on the ground.

Pack out what is packed in.

I'm about to head out to my new spot and I'll do a good evaluation of the place to see if it's worth protecting. I thought it was a pretty common place but I've only seen one other person out there before. Nowhere near as bad as the other spot, but there's a bit of trash already collected and probably a few hundred shells and what not. Someone brought a HUGE tv out there since the last time I went out.

Default Rosamond Cleanup

Too whom it may concern as a life long resident of Rosamond Ca, there is no legalplace to shoot in the area north of Rosamond between the 14 Freeway Mojave Tropico Road south of Dawn Road, WITHOUT OWNER PERMISSION! This is because of RECKLESS VANDALS mostly Out Of Towners who call themselves SHOOTERS! They have caused irrepairable damage to PRIVATE PROPERTY leaving trash, shooting up rock formations, shooting fully automatic weapons and shooting over the hill into residences on the other side endangering LIVES. It truly pains me as shooter, resident, and personal friend of the property owners who are being maligned. This is the true SAD state of affairs. To my understanding The WARNINGS are almost over and citations will be issued.

Some people ruin it for all of us and give us all another BLACK EYE!

Default Rosamond Cleanup

Or is it some dirtbag who feels slighted by the owner for posting NO SHOOTING SIGNS and wants payback by denying him the ability to clean up his own property. I know the owner and he is just as pissed about it as everyone else because he can't even clean up his own property withou getting a flat. Quit jumping to conclusions and slandering people you don't know.

What sucks? I didn't get a flat and I've not been out to Rattlesnake Rd or that general area for over a year now. I shoot some where else. No trash, no brass, no shotgun shells and I've not seen anyone else there.

Is this his first cleanup attempt? Are the tacks on his property or are they on public road?

They were all over his property and the road. Which by the way is used bye most of the residents of that area. Also for all of the people reading this thread it is not legal to shoot on private property without the owners permission and if you love your guns and right to own and shoot them like I do?

Always make sure you know where you are shooting is legal, just because it looks desolate does'nt mean it's BLM or Public Land. If you don't, we will all suffer. The 2nd amendment has enough enemies already.

Im originally from lancaster and will be here for the next few weeks but its been a few years since i've lived in the area and I dont know whats what anymore with all the spots to go to. If anyone can point the way it would be much appreciated.

It's a great range. If you're active military, ask for a discount on the range fee. My sons always get a few dollars off when I take them there. The range masters treat military like royalty.

Here are some more "tacks" from Rattlesnake Road. I advise my friend to not go out there because of post #1 and so on. His father in law was coming in from out of state for Thanksgiving weekend and they wanted to go shooting. The father in law was told by his friend (who is a active law enforcer) to shoot at Rattlesnake Rd. Well.......

There are some other locations in the Rosamond area where you can shoot for now. Being from Rosamond I will not disclose the locations, but even though it is not known to most it is still starting to get trashed. Please take out more more than you take in or we will all be stuck paying to shoot.

No Shooting Signs Posted On PRIVATE PROPERTY! makes it illegal.

No Written Permission on private property makes it illegal.

People who Can't Read or don't care will screw us all!

The tacks in this area as of two weeks ago are pretty much gone, no doubt in
everyone's tires.
There are signs posted "no shooting" so few are there but some still persist.
I checked it out as I was headed north of that area and was surprised to find
these propane bottles in an area not visited by many, took them home to dispose of properly, picked up my brass and the shot gun shells the bottles faced.

I just stumbled onto this thread. I can't believe some one tossed a bunch of tacks out there. I live in Lancaster but I am stationed at Edwards AFB. My boss talked about shooting out there, but I have never been. Lucky for me I'm a instructor at the range on base and still have a range to go to. Sad thing is people still leave trash even on my military range
