Default What type of broadhead for wild boar?

Hello fellower hunters,

I am looking into hunting with my Mission Bow next year. What type of broadhead would you all recommend for wild boar hunting?

Though not on boar, but on bears, deer and small game I've used Quad Pro, Montec and Bloodrunners. So far Quad pro has given me more game but thats because I used it the most. Just this season I switched to Bloodrunners 2 blades. I got 2 deer and 1 bear. They make a nasty cut your fist can fit into.

Basically, whatever BH your tuned to so you can make the best shot. Good luck!

I use Muzzy 100gr,3 blades on elk. They fly the same as my 100gr,field points.Big advantage when target shooting and then not having to adjust sights for the hunting tips. They leave elk on the ground as fast as anything.Shot out of a PSE Axe,at 42 yards penetrated from the shoulder to the rear quarter, with lung and liver. The others have been broadside with 2 broken ribs on the opposite side and massive heart and respiratory failure.
If you shoot them well,no tracking involved.

180ls1,

I am currently using G5 Outdoors Striker & Montec CS™ Fixed-Blade Broadheads, 125 / 100 grains. I havn't use any others yet. I use fixed blades because I hear rumers that the mechanical sometimes does not open. What's your thought?

Just want to thank all of you who gave input so far. I am creating a list now. Time to check Bass Pro and Cabelas for best prices.

You are good to go. No need to change your setup if these shoot well for you. Go hunting!

Its true. I used the old technology mechanical back when and my first shot with a deer broadside hit its "elbow" where the heart should of been and it deflected down and only 1 blade open while the other broke and one still in its slot not open. After that I've switched to cut-on-contact for about 10 years. Only this year did I go back to mechanical blade to test its new technology.

Of the two deer I got I shot one extreme quarter away. More like its butt was basically towards me but slightly turn enough for me to squeeze a shot. I hit it right at its thigh/belly and the 2 1/8" blade open enough to literally gut it from thigh to the ribs causing all the intestine to spill out, the BH then proceeded to hit the lungs and the other side of the blade cut its heart. It ran about 15 yards and fell over dead. That got me enough to love the BH.

But like many said, pick the one you feel confident with. A part of gear is something you feel that connects with your equipment. If everything falls into place you have confidence in taking your game. Good luck!

I use Grim Reapers and G5 Strikers. I have never had a problem with the Grim Reapers opening. They leave a nasty hole. I use the Strikers when I'm hunting out of a blind. I shoot with the mesh windows on. If you look at the Redhead Black Out at Bass Pro, they are the same as the G5's. If you get them on sale, they are about $20 for 3.

Then id run the 100's if you know they fly strait and you have them already. I helped a guy track a deer who had a mechanical break on him impacting the shoulder of a mule deer, i dont remember the brand.

If you shoot them well,no tracking involved.
This^ another thing when shooting a bow stick to a single weight broadhead and single arrow brand and type. Switching back and forth will cause problems sighting in and could cost you an animal. Good luck

I shoot 100 gr. thunderheads which fly the same as my field points. I can't really justify to myself trying something else when I already have my sight pins set up and I don't have to mess with anything.

If your broadhead does not fly like your field pt then your bow is not tune correctly.
And if you change anything with your set up you need to retune. Bow hunting with the modern bows is a lot more techie than in the pass. You should go to your local archery shop and start there if your bow is not in tune. Even the most expensive arrows very in enough weight to shoot wide.

My broadheads are VPA or shuttle "T"

all the broadheads mentioned are good, just stick with one that shoots as close as possible to your field points.
in my search for that I came across Slick Tricks (100 gr) and have never used anything else. pigs, deer, elk with that broadhead, they shoot just like a field point.

I shoot Tight Point Shuttle T-lock fixed blades. In fact, I've shot these exclusively for the past 5 or 6 years.
