I know the 6-9 is best, but since I have no real knowledge of bi-pods other then the cheap barrel clamp, is the "S-BRM with leg notches" a must have or just good addition for a few extra bucks?

I think the notched legs are a must have. If you're just shooting at the range, the swivel I can do without. Swivel is a must have if you shoot prone on uneven surfaces.

thats what i use with an adapter to fit the picintanny rail.

i like the 6-9. leg notches are nicer than the standard ones. swivel would be nice if you shot prone often.

Harris 6-9" with leg notches. This is for shooting benched at the range. Also, if you are using 10/30 PMAGS you will need to run it all the way extended at 9" just to clear the magazine.

A swivel lock is also a nice addition:

The best Harris Bi-pod is the Rock Mount Bi-pod from Walmart at half the price. It's 9-13" and also folds forward. Save the other half the money for ammo.

While that is a decent bipod, it doesn't have leg notches which I personally like.

I'm not a big fan of Chinese rip offs of quality US made products - especially if you can get the real thing with not a lot more money. There are a few reports of the RockMounts falling apart after awhile. Harris Bipods have a lifetime warranty.

my rock mount hasn't broken after 5 barrels of 556, also went thru 2k of 7mm mag and 30-06, t still looks new and functions like the day I got it (7 years ago) I guess I'm the lucky one.

You're probably not going to believe me, but if you go to Wal-Mart and buy the Winchester bipods, they're really good. I have two rock mounts and three winchesters. They all look exactly the same with the exception of the winchester taking an allen wrench to fasten securely and the rock mount has a quick release nut on it to secure with your fingers or a screw driver; the nut looks like the nuts that hold on removable A2 carry handles. I don't have a Harris, but they look almost the same as the Rock Mount/Winchesters.

I swear I am the only person in the ENTIRE gun world that doesn't prefer the leg notches. I actually hate them. I prefer the legs locking out rather than going in. It just seems to work better for me. I really want that larue bipod for my 18" spr but HATE having to buy that with the notches and then rebuild it with a different set of legs. and I have emailed larue and they won't custom build me one with the good legs

I think you have the model numbers a little mixed up:

S-BR: 6-9" swivel model
S-BRM: 6-9" swivel model, with leg notches

In Harris bipod model number nomenclature, "S" means swivel, "BR" means benchrest model (6-9"), and "M" means log notches.

Harris LMS got my money. Short enough for the bench and tall enough to to get some elevation if you have to shoot up hill.

L-long
M- mitered legs
S- swivel

BR-benchrest

Rock Mount is the rip-off of Harris designs. It has the look, but quality.

I'm pretty sure you mean the Harris S-LM.
That's the swivel 9-13 with notched legs.

I keep an S-BRM on each precision rifle and an S-LM in my pack in case I need it.
