Damn! Gotta wear gloves, man. Sorry to see that happen when you're doing a good thing, but as the saying goes, no good deed goes unpunished. Heal up soon.

And well done guys. Cheers to you! (at least later this evening when I drink my Miller Highlife 32oz with dinner)

Thanks everyone for helping out today!!! Cant believe how many shooters just blindfully drove up and with total disregard for the posted signs. Funny when you try to warn people that their shooting and could get ticketed, how can they find the mustard to be rude??? Geniuses were at the entrance w/ a pop up standing in between the brown "No Shooting" signs...but anyways back on topic, hopefully the weather keeps and September is nice. I will set a date for September later this week, probably be closer to the end of the month. Thanks again!!!

It wasn't that deep, it got "superglue" lol he did that when we were unloading(my second oldest. That's his truck) . We got there about 540 . We watched for every one but the few that we did see just started shooting. ..
Se we went ahead and got started . Filled the truck up fast. Saw you guys on our way out so we decided to unload and come back. Just didn't work out that way. He's doing fine, he's more worried about being able to go to "PT" this week than he was getting it looked at.

Ya, we were hanging out at the entrance, when you saw us was when we decided to head up and stop waiting....LoL guess we should've went up sooner. Glad he's ok, and thank you for helping out.

Hey, no problem. We shoot up there all the time . Thank all of you guys for your part . I know most of you aren't as local as we are. We're about 15 min. away. Plan on being back for the next clean up as well.

I experienced that too. You try and warn people about the signs and ticketing they cop an attitude with you.

I really enjoyed going out there and shooting. Now i'll have to look for another spot.

This morning and last night I was working on some leather, and I decided to make this leather pouch. I'm going to give this away at the September clean up, whatever your number is on the clean up list will be put on a piece of paper. Then day of clean up a number will be drawn and that person will receive their coin pouch. Also who ever brings the most people with them to the clean up will get their very own pouch. I can put your name or screen name on it, we'll talk bout it on clean up day.

Thanks, I will be posting the September's clean up date ASAP!!!
C

The strip of leather is 11 inches long by 2 inches wide.

This pouch can hold a lot of change.

I'm new to the forum, but not sp and would be happy to lend a hand cleaning up. I can bring a soft rake, heavy rake, shovels, pitchfork, trash bags, and maybe my brother. I also have access to a dumpster about 15-20 mins away, but I've got a small car and can't haul much on my own.

Anyone got an update is steele peak is open? I go to lake elsinore quiet often to hike around the cleveland NF and sometimes shoot. I keep hearing horror stories about steele peak with people deliberately being unsafe with their firearms. I'm going to avoid weekends and hopeful it all works out.

Nope, its still closed. We haven't got enough rain to open back up. I hear people are still shooting there even though theres signs saying No Shooting Fire Danger. If you get caught its a big fine, theres always people out there that are not safe shooters.

Bummer. We should get some decent rain this season (hopefully). It'll be nice to shoot in a legal area without having to worry about fines. The forest has some remote areas with some nice terrain and a safe backdrops to shoot but technically you are only suppose to be hunting and not target shooting. Thanks for the update

No, it isn't open and you can always check the BLM website here for fire closure info: http://www.blm.gov/ca/st/en/fo/cdd/f...trictions.html

I've been going to Steele Peak for over 15 years and I honestly don't think its people being deliberately unsafe, I think its just that they are uneducated.

I've seen my fair share of stupid stuff out there; drinking, pot smoking, littering, shooting at rocks, and people shooting at targets while their neighbors are downrange. Unfortunately, most gun shops in the area freely give the location of this place to new gun owners and they are the most dangerous generally speaking. If this place doesn't shape up and keep clean/get safer, we'll lose it forever!

IMO, Steele Peak needs more enforcement and ticketing by the BLM rangers, or a permanent Range Officer stationed there.

More comforting stories of this place. Yeah I can't handle unsafe firearms handling.
Best to leave when that type of crowd is there. I'm definitely going to avoid weekends. Thanks for the info

I have gone during the week when it was open after work and lets just say this place isn't kosher in the evening. One would feel safer open carrying all the way to the exit cause you just never know.

Hi. I'm new to the area and i've been told of an outdoor shooting area off the 74 in Perris off Christmas tree lane. Is this the site everyone on this blog are referring as Steele Peak. Thanks.

^Yes, but it's closed right now due to fire danger. If you go to check it out, bring some trash bags and help keep it clean.

I read the blm Web site and it says you can still hunt while it is closed for target shooting. I called to make sure and they said I must possess a valid hunting license and if the ranger shows up cause some one called me in for discharging a firearm to just show him my hunting license and make sure I have no targets up.

Finally getting some rain. Might need to check out the peak and bring some trash home. Thinking about setting up another list for a clean up. I feel Jan would be better than Dec, with Christmas and new years. Anyone up for a morning get together in Jan??
