Default Design Update: Resurgent Arms Featureless Rifle Grip

Hi Calguns,

In my last thread, I asked for advice and input from the community.

First off, thank you. The amount of valuable input I received vastly surpassed my expectations.

I just made another video, showing the design improvements we've made as a result of that conversation. A number of people also requested I show the grip being shouldered, and I wanted to keep my promise on that.

The video. (3 min)

Thoughts? Suggestions? Concerns? Thanks in advance.

Well done Will. I like that your wrist angle isn't overly bent. That tells me that the bottom strap being more forward has worked and will definitely improve upon the Thordsen wrist angle.

The only suggestion I can make, is to start thinking about material/texture for the production models. One of the failings of the Exile Machine Backfin, is that the 3D printed material is slippery and uncomfortable to hold. Similarly, the Hammerhead grip is bulky and also does not have sufficient traction.

One strategy, to save on production costs, would be to build in micro cutouts (insets) throughout the bottom, side and top straps so that folks could glue-in or stick-in their own rubberized grip panels post-production. The inset cuts would make it so that overall dimensional diameter would not be increased with the addition of rubberized grip panels.

Can't wait to try pre-production prototypes.

Very nice man. I'm down. maybe a little pocket and cover on the back side so you can keep all your goodies in there.

Keep it up!

As long as its not shiny like that the 2nd prototype is good, imo.

I really dig version 2.0. Now for the $64 question.. How much will this grip cost? I'm currently running the Thordson FRS-15 stock on two of my AR's and I absolutely love them. But on my 24" bull barrel that's not an option because it cannot be used with a rifle length buffer tube. I was looking at the Hammerhead grip, but yours looks 100X better and more comfortable. If it's in the same price point ($30-$35) you have a real winner on your hands and I'll be the first in line to order a couple up. I would like to see how it fits with a variety of popular fixed stocks, such as a standard A2, a Magpul PRS, a Luth AR, etc. The problem with the Hammerhead with the aforementioned stocks is that there isn't enough clearance for the shooter's thumb between the grip and the underside of the stocks.

Very cool. I'll add it to my list of grips and stocks post.

What's it called?

That looks pretty useable. I'm looking at fins right now for my grips. But would be interested to see what the pricing is on these.

If at all possible, please try to go a little more robust than the 3D printing of other makers. If you do something out of an injection molded plastic or some kind of composite, I think we all would be willing to pay a bit more. I sent the video to my dad who works for a company that does that kind of thing to see what he thinks. If you don't currently have a way to get it mass produced, let me know, I might be able to get you pointed to a manufacturer, if the company he works for won't/can't do it. Currently they are running near capacity.

You will want to have it high heat injection molded. The higher the heat during the molding process requires a more substantial material like a polycarbonate. But other stuff may melt starting at around 150 degrees or so. To that end, I think most of us here would likely prefer something a little more substantial... Maybe I am incorrect.

This so far looks to be the best grip design. I'd buy one just to try.

How does it react to stippling? Is it pretty thick or hollow? Does spray paint stick to it?

Just like the Exile Hammer head, I dont think this is designed with the A2 stock in mind.

Looks great. I like the changes you've made since the last thread.

The only change I'd like to see is to make the piece that meets the end plate (where the web of your hand is placed) follow the line of the lower receiver more fluidly. If that makes sense.

I'd try one. Would like to see the area where the web of hand goes, dished in just a tad instead of being straight up/down. And if the whole thing was rubber overmolded, it would be a knockout.

Yep, a more "grip-friendly" version of the Hammerhead...

I have been trying to decide - hammerhead, grips fins or monster man. No decision to make now if priced right. I will take at least 3 to start with.

The feedback you are getting about price is a red herring. Price it to whatever makes sense for your business.
