Default Advanced Handgun Fundamentals Class?

I'm looking for a course in California with top-notch instruction on the fundamentals--grip, stance, draw, recoil control, trigger management, etc. I'm essentially looking for an "Advanced Basic Handgun" type of class.

It seems that a lot of instructors go to different topics for their more advanced instruction (one-handed shooting and weapon manipulation, shooting while moving, etc), while a lot of Basic Handgun classes are really too basic for me (I don't need a discussion of the difference between DA/SA and striker-fired).

For whatever it's worth, I'm classified an IDPA Sharpshooter, and have taken Seeklander's two-day defensive class, among others.

Can anyone recommend an instructor/course for this?

FAST OC has intermediate handgun courses. Sounds like just what you are looking for.

Maybe a USPSA or IDPA shooter/trainer might be what you're looking for. Some USPSA GMs do traveling classes. Ben Stoeger does some in the Bay Area. The practical competitive sports shooters tend to have mastery of fundamentals.

Default Practical Fundamentals - OpsSpec

I have taken a variety of combat pistol classes and this is one of the better ones in my opinion. Just my .2 cents, but I will likely retake it again when it comes back to RR&G as I missed part of the class last time as I caught the flu on day one. Not a beginner course.

Ben Stoeger will be at Richmond in May. I'll train you for half that cost.

Are you shooting with SDPS at SacValley?

That is what I teach, but I only do it in a 1:1 setting; takes less time, less ammo, and we focus on your learning style/issues.

I've taught Practical Fundamentals (post #5) with Bruce Gray.

Sure am. I think I know who you are... you normally shoot a revolver, right?

Yup, that's me. Took the Revolver Division at the Western last year

When I traveled to teach, I instructed with a DA/SA SIG. My last 3 clients at shot Glocks and M&Ps...so I'm not locked into any platform. As a matter of fact, I'm working with a CZ shooter tomorrow at SacValley.

Send me a PM if you'd like to followup or hit me up at the next match. I usually shoot ElDorado and SDPS...sometimes Richmond and Gridley
