I’m in for the next Sturdy group buy if it’s sometime in the next 3-4 months.

If thatís your desired delivery timeframe you probably need to start organizing it now. Not trying to be critical of Sturdy as it takes time to make a quality product.

Default DIY Safe Moving

When I was researching safes I seen several posts asking about moving a safe on your own so I thought I would post my recent experience. I recently moved my 48x26x72 1800 lb Sturdy Safe in place with the help of my daughter and a pair of tools called Roll-A-Lift.
Moved it from the garage, around through my front door, through the kitchen, and in to a room. Took about 4 hours from start to finish including cutting and laying down plywood to protect the wood and tile floors.
Before moving anything I bought several moving boxes and taped them together to use as a model of my safe. Then I used the model to check clearances, making corners, etc.. This saved me from making a mistake as I was going to move the safe, via the shortest path, through my garage and laundry room directly in to the safes final location. When I tried the model on this path I discovered I couldnít make the last turn due to the dimensions of the safe.
After using the model I used the boxes to put under the plywood so I didnít scratch the wood floors with the plywood.
With (2) 4x8 sheets of 5/8Ē plywood, boxes, (2) 25í ratchet straps, a couple of 1.5Ē wooden dowels, (2) moving blankets and Roll-a-lift rental, I spent about $300. I didnít get quotes from safe movers but I am sure, after doing it myself, no one would have quoted to do it for less. If I had hired movers to do it then all of them would know my address, and that I have a safe, and that was the main reason I chose to do it my self. If I had to move this beast up/down stairs I would have seriously reconsidered my DIY choice.
So if youíre thinking of moving your own safe my advice is, get the roll a lifts (couldnít have done without these), take time to plan out the details before beginning, measure EVERYTHING, go slow and easy, and remember leverage is your friend!

I'm in for a group buy. Have at least one friend that's in the market, now whether or not he's ready to spend the money is another question but with a percentage off I'm sure he'd be in. It's amazing what a person will buy when you tell them it's on sale...

Default Group Buys

You guys looking for a group buy might want to call Sturdy before you get too far. I know just prior to our group buy (originated by this thread) Sturdy was in the midst of changing the way they structure group buys and they stopped a couple of group buy startup threads.

Not trying to dampen anyone's efforts here just don't want anyone to think the typical group buys seen on these boards are always a foregone conclusion.

We were lucky enough to have one member step up and call Sturdy for authorization of our group buy and also organize it from beginning to end (thanks again Quarky!).
