Brother, I know how you feel!! I'm glad you are still here! It's hard but everyday is a Blessing. People ask and my response is this, I wake up and my wife yells at me, My daughters yell at me, I go my Mom and Dad, they yell at me, my sisters yell at me . . . It's all good!! Better yelling at me then crying for me. God Bless by Brother, God Will provide for you!!!

Take some classes at a CC. Computer-related jobs are still highly in demand, especially if you're highly motivated. It'll get you out of the house and meeting people, and start on some course work that may help you land a job.

Have you considered UPS in Palmdale or the big UPS air hub near Adelanto?
Forklift operators or general maintenance mechanics may be needed, especially at that air hub.

Good luck to you!

SCG, glad to hear that you're well and have the desire and energy to get back into the world, as you describe it. You're still young and have time to establish a career for yourself, don't sweat this speed bump you're experiencing.

Work history gaps can be hard to overcome, but not impossible. Start small and find work in entry level positions to gain some history. Do you have any physical limitations? How about a pickup and common yard tools? Consider checking out real estate agents who need people to do property clean ups, maybe even talk with local contractors and offer to do small jobs. This way you aren't dealing with big companies who have more strict hiring guidelines.

Ever had a pool? Understand basic pool chemistry and maintenance? Pool cleaning is a big industry with lots of turnover and relatively easy to do. If you don't have the knowledge, it's not that hard to learn as long as you are willing.

Are the above two ideas outside your comfort level? Check with banks, real estate offices, auto parts stores, etc., and ask who does their after hours cleaning. Contact them and see if they are hiring.

All the examples I've offered are almost always small business owners.

You get the idea, right? Usually the person you talk/interview with is the entire "HR dept.", so how you present yourself will go a long way, and they have the final say.

Remember, these are small steps to get your feet wet again in the workforce, and will help build your work history without dealing with big companies with more stringent hiring policies.

Good luck to you

You can apply for the postal service. They have many jobs. As a vet you can start in maintenance craft. Pushing a broom and mop. Work your away up to electronic technician. Out in Lancaster, there is rite aid. It's the warehouse by the fair grounds... there's many jobs but I don't know if your willing to drive to santa clarita. That's the only thing that sucks about the A.V. MOST decent jobs you have to commute.

How big is Palmdale? Uber, Lyft drivers can make pretty good money, set their own hours etc.

I think I may start with this to get even a little income coming in as I pursue other options. Just in my apartment buildings corner lot there are at least 10 cars with lyft or uber tags in their windows.

Edit- my truck qualifies for uber now. Last I looked into it the requirements were cars no older than 5yrs, now itís 10 so Uber may be a possibility, need to look deeper into it.

I do worry about people getting sick in my car or people that appear dangerous but it comes with the job I guess. I have never had a ticket in my life or even a mark on my driving record. I just wish my truck got better mileage lol...
For less than $100 you can purchase WeatherTech digitally mapped floormats... they will make that potential situation a lot more tolerable .

Also, just about every retail store is looking for reliable hires for the holiday season: Pre-thanksgiving sales, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Tech Tuesday, etc.. Not only would I recommend applying online, but actually going to stores to speak to managers. Just shoot your ****: hello, I'm looking for a job to make some fast cash, I'm a bit older so I'm responsible but I still move like I'm young. Do you have room for me on your team?

Uber/Lyft is good to get back on your feet, and try Valet companies off indeed or CL.

The gap in your work history may not be as much of an issue to prospective employers as your medical issue.

A friend was hired in an office, then a few weeks later an employee found out she had diabetes when she saw her taking insulin. The owner was very annoyed when he found out & asked her, "Why didn't you tell me you were diabetic?" My friend answered, "Because it has nothing to do with my job ability; I'm not driving a school bus or flying a plane with passengers." The only reason the owner would have wanted to know is because he wouldn't have hired her if he knew.

I spoke with a couple of business owners & a CEO who explained that their worker's comp insurers and medical insurance providers discourage hiring someone with any medical condition that may be more costly to them.
Perhaps you could avoid revealing it.

FedEx just opened a huge distribution center off the 605fwy and Lower Azusa, I'm certain they need folks that know how to use folk lifts and run a warehouse.

For that bumper the pick your part yard is across I15 and south of bear valley rd.
Try the employment offices sometimes jobs post on the wall or they might know of an internship.

I have even asked an employer to let me work for free a few days so we could learn how we get along. he gets to see your quality as an employee.

With liability being what it is he just hired me as I was unique in the bunch looking for work

Iíve heard Costco starts you off around $12-14 but will max you out to around $24-25 within four years as a standard position and you can move up the ladder should you choose to

Try applying for Fedex. They are one of the few company that will offer both pension and 401k. I have no idea what they would pay because there are so many positions available

IBEW International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers will pay you to learn how to be a journeyman electrician.

Office is in L.A. and you get raises as you go along the two year process of classroom and worksite. Top pay is $26 an hour but I believe you start out at $16.00 per hour.

You can get paid to go to electrician school. Not bad really.

Best of luck!

If you have great sales skills, go sell cars. Easy to get a job in an auto dealership these days, and if you're good at it and motivated, you could be making high five figures or even six figures very soon. If you're not, it's a tough life where you'll be stuck around $40k.

Local 12 operating engineers (Cranes, Dirt Equipment) is taking applications for their Apprenticeship starting January 22 til February, itís only open once every other year. Top Journeyman scale is over 40$ plus benefits and they teach you everything. I went through it, itís a fun job playing with big boy Tonka toys

Northrup is moving a ton of work to Palmdale. They have a big facility out there with more capacity. You will get decent benefits and short of selling secrets to the Chinese you will not get fired.

To stop the increasing gap in work history, volunteer and/or start taking classes at a community college.

I'm sorry to hear that. Have you been submitting resumes solely online? How's your in-person game?

Also check out Adecco Staffing. I've seen some real low lives get hired through them, and from how you describe your demeanor, I don't see a problem landing something.

One more thing: warehouses. Try some commercial districts and go door to door to ask for a job. Maybe pack online orders for some quick cash.
