Default 1911 - 3 clicks

Hello friendly CG 1911 Gurus - I have an annoying 3 clicks when cocking,
Hopefully, someone can advise the cause and remedy...

Series 70 1911A1 - 3 clicks when cocking

I removed the thumb safety to peer in, the 2nd click and movement of the
sear occurs just before the sear clicks into the hammer hooks (3rd click)

Subsequently, the grip safety was removed to view, the MS housing reinstalled and the MS Housing pin pushed in only far enough to keep it together.
No 3 clicks - only the 2 normal clicks (half cock, full cock)

The Grip safety reinstalled, kept in place with an accommodating drill bit shank, but the MS Housing pin was once again pushed in only enough to keep it together.
No 3 clicks

MS Housing pin driven in fully
3 clicks returns

What is the cause of the 2nd click - and remedy to remove?

Other that that, the gun passes all safety function tests

From what you describe, the hammer strut is nestling in the mainspring cap and sightly re-positioning itself just before full cock. Check for burrs and tool marks on the mating surfaces of the parts in question. Could be something else, it's awful hard to see from the keyboard.

Thanks for the advice and pointing me in what turned out to be the right direction, Mr kendog4570

I polished the tip of the Hammer Strut, which was a little burred, but it did not solve the problem.

But, feeling I was on the right track, I disassembled the mainspring housing and ran an oiled drill bit into the hole. The drill bit caught a bit, and there were some shavings present upon withdrawal. I grabbed a trusty Q-tip, oiled it and ran it into the hole to clean it out. Oiled and reassembled the Main Spring Housing, then reinstalled and function tested; Presto Change-o - no more 3 clicks

Evidently, a burr in the Main Spring Housing was causing the 2nd click

Thanks again Mr kendog4570

Kendog apparently has 20/20 "keyboard vision". Great job OP. Thanks for sharing.

I've run into several rough MS housings over the years.
Always check the spring hole for burrs and ridges inside.
(My favorite for nice action is a Colt plastic one...heresy I know but it is so smooth!)

You should also take a look at the ends of the Mainspring. sometimes they can have sharp ends that protrude past the OD of the spring.

Hone the mainspring housing bore.
Polish the outside of the mainspring cap which slides in the mainspring housing bore.
