That sounds about perfect. Figure on an 8 A.M. start time with the class taking a lunch break and then stopping for dinner around 4 P.M.

Then picking back up around 5 P.M. for the 2-3 hour low-light section.

Great stuff. I'm all signed up and so is a friend from Boston, Mass. Looking forward to it.

I'll start practicing Hackathorn's "Test" & "Standards" drills. The latter below is performed by Jason Falla and I'll ask Jason for tips during his end of November class since he has completed it with a score of 298 out of 300 (highest recorded score)!

HACKATHORN TEST DRILL

10 rounds in 10 seconds from 10 yards from ready position. All shots within I believe the 5.5" black circle.

HACKATHORN STANDARDS DRILL

300 Points max. 60 Rounds total. No Make Up Shots.

Larry Vickers & Jason Falla both got a 298 on this which is the highest recorded score so far.

250+ Expert
200-249 Acceptable
Below 200 Needs Improvement

3 IPSC targets 1 meter apart and staggered medium-high-low height

5 points for an A, 3 points for a C and 2 points for a D. Entire head is 5 points. Going over time is -5 points.

#1--5 yards--1 rd on each head from draw freestyle--3 sec

#2--5 yards--1 rd on each head strong hand--4 sec

#3--5 yards--1 rd on each body strong hand--3 sec

#4--5 yards--1 rd on each body strong hand--3 sec

#5--8 yards--2 rds on left target freestyle--2 sec

#6--8 yards--2 rds on center target freestyle--2 sec

#7--8 yards--2 rds on right target freestyle--2 sec

#8--10 yards--El Presidente; start facing uprange w/6 rds in gun, turn and draw, 2 rds each target, slide lock reload, 2 rds on each target--10 seconds

#9--10 yards--weak hand pickup; gun on ground, butt to strong side, start standing, strong hand in small of back, retrieve handgun, 1 rd on each
target--5 sec

#10--12 to 8 yards--2 rds each target while moving forward from 12 yds--5 sec

#11--15 yards--transition drill; start with hands at shoulder level as if holding rifle, 1 rd on each target--4 sec

#12--20 yards--start standing; drop to prone, 2 rds on each target--10 sec

#13--25 yards--start behind barricade; 2 rds on each target standing, perform tactical reload under cover(retain/stow partial mag), 2 rds on each target kneeling--24 sec

Glad me and friend from Boston got in on this. Looking forward to it. We ran the "Test" drill several times last week at a static range. That's 10 rounds from 10 yards in 10 seconds at a 5.5" circle. Once you get it try it one handed strong and weak. We'll practice the "Standards" drill in January just before the class.

I think no news is good news.

Some people were checking up on Prado range situation, and seems like the water is out of the range. I guess clean-up would not take too long.

Looks like the range is getting better. I've just gotten word we will be good to go for the class.

It might be a little damp, but that will not hurt the class at all.

Have a great class.

Yeah, after checking the range this morning we were forced to move the class. Prado just would not be safe or equal to a class of this stature so quickly after the flooding. We had high hopes it would dry out and clean up in time and were told it would, but obviously that did not happen fast enough.

Everyone should have received the email from Sarah. If not, please feel free to contact her; help@greygrouptraining.com

Everything else stays the same.

Oak Tree Gun Club in Newhall, CA.

* From Los Angeles or the San Fernando Valley:
o North on the I-5 over the Newhall Pass.
o Pass the Antelope Valley Freeway Turnoff (14).
o Exit the I-5 at Calgrove Blvd.
o Turn left on Calgrove (The Old Road), and continue on Calgrove (The Old Road) to the top of the grade.
o Turn right at the top of the grade, on Weldon Canyon Overpass.
o Cross the freeway and turn right on Coltrane Ave at the stop sign.
o Take Coltrane Ave past the compost facility, and Camelot Riding Club, to the end of the road where you will enter Oak Tree Gun Club.
* From Bakersfield, Castaic, Santa Clarita:
o South on I-5, past Lyons Ave/Pico Canyon turnoff.
o Exit the I-5 Freeway at Calgrove Blvd.
o Turn right on Calgrove (The Old Road), and continue on Calgrove (The Old Road) to the top of the grade.
o Turn right at the top of the grade, on Weldon Canyon Overpass.
o Cross the freeway and turn right on Coltrane Ave at the stop sign.
o Take Coltrane Ave past the compost facility, and Camelot Riding Club, to the end of the road where you will enter Oak Tree Gun Club.

Look forward to reading the range reports. Ken is on my short list of instructors that I'd like to train with.

This is the reason why I had to make a last minute change as to the range location. flood is an act of God that prevented the training from going forward at Prado.

I hate to have everyone including Ken with mud caked shoes all weekend and not to mention the sanitary concern I had with the over run of flood water and possible sewage.

We are very fortunate that instead of having to cancel we were able to find an such a great alternative venue in such short notice.

Thank you for your understanding and we look forward to a great class this weekend.

Even though the last minute change of venue was / is a major inconvenience for many (a friend from Boston who's arriving tonight after a snow blizzard there had to change his hotel and flight) I certainly consider myself lucky that the class is actually going to be held. Would not have liked a cancellation. Thanks to Chen & Paul it's great to know that the class is on!

SMGLee, thanks for checking the range and making appropriate change. While the new one is farther than Prado, I don't think training in such situation would be a good idea.

Besides, thanks to the gorgeous weather I was hoping to wear this.

I started to write my AAR for this class last night but just too much other stuff. I'll get it done by Wednesday night before going to the SHOT Show. I'll post my AAR under the "Competition, Action Shooting And Training" forum. Suffice it to say that I was highly impressed and it was probably the best advanced handgun class I've taken so far. Ken's fluid presentation style, training experience and encyclopedic knowledge are superb.

Sounds awesome, someone needs to star the AAR anyway.
