Default NJ Democrat about to make it much harder for lower income people to defend themselves

NJ Democrat Phil Murphy has plans to drastically increase the costs to be a gun owner and increase the permit cost for CCW by 800%

Are the Democrats trying to price lower-income people and minorities out of exercising their 2nd amendment right?

The plan would raise the cost for handgun purchase permits from $2 to $50; firearms identification cards from $5 to $100; handgun carry permits from $50 to $400; retail gun dealer licenses from $50 to $500; and wholesaler/manufacturer licenses from $150 to $1,500, among other hikes.

If this passes, I can bet that our next Gov, Newsom, will likely make similar moves here in California.

Isn't this kind of like a poll tax?

Of course, but since it's guns its OK. But mandatory voter ID is racist.

Exactly. The word "disenfranchised" was worn out on voters rights.

Prohibition worked out so well with spirits so lets try it with firearms. No outright ban, just make them unaffordable. Yeah, that will be the ticket.

Keep it up. The firearm speakeasy will just take the place of legitimate retailers.

NJ's goal is the same as CA's that being remove guns from the general public, CCW's have been unavailable for the common person in NJ forever so nothing really new along that front. This type of behavior at the state and local level will never change unless we get Federal laws that over ride all state gun laws and self defense laws.

The CCW fee hike would be a good deal IF it included shall-issue. Instead the Gov wants to make it HARDER. Keep in mind it's nearly impossible as it is to get a permit there.

Their goal is of course to price people out of firearm ownership, plain and simple.
Miss Chris Christie yet?

Well, if we can get a black female plaintiff in New Jersey, it might be a winning case before SCOTUS.

The problem is you'd probably get another SCOTUS weasel job, "we overturn this law, but in order to get a majority, we have to add the disclaimer that this decision contains no guidance wrt anything else whatsoever, and every similar law is probably ok with us"
