Default 458 SOCOM pistols

Hereís a recent project: side charging single-shot 458 SOCOM pistol.

Major components:
- BCA upper (bought from CalGunner)
- 10.5 barrel from Tromix (no gas port)
- lower from 80-lower.com

Compliance parts:
- Hogue Freedom Fighter fixed mag
- Bob Sled (for 6mm-15)

At the moment it has a mil-spec FCG but itís due for an upgrade.

Lots of fun to shoot, and I figure if I only get one shot it better count!

Hmm, thought I posted in the gallery sub-topic. Sorry 'bout that.

Thats a nice little pistol. What's the recoil and muzzle blast like?

Thanks!

With 30gr of H110 behind a 300gr bullet, it wasnít bad at all. I mean the thing jumps, but it doesnít feel like itís gonna break your hand. (Although one time I didnít have a firm enough grip and the rear sight made an imprint on my forehead! )

I didnít see any muzzle flash including when I filmed a shot with my phone. But that was broad daylight, I assume at night itís gonna be pretty visible.

In terms of force of the blast, there was nobody shooting on either side of me to notice the effects of the radial comp, so I canít say.

Shooting offhand with my cheek on the buffer tube I was able to put holes in a man-sized target at 25 yards. Not a tight group by any means. Need to try with a sling next time. And I might move the rear sight forward, the aperture was a bit big (not to mention Iíd prefer no marks on my forehead!).

Obviously semi-auto would be fun, but with the side charger I was able to cycle rounds surprisingly quickly once I got the hang of it: shoot, retract the bolt, load a round, release the bolt, aim, shoot... a lot like what it mustíve been like to shoot a trapdoor 140 years ago.
