SF Bay Area range that allows 6 year olds?

Hi,

Any of you calgunners know if there's a shooting range here in the SF Bay Area (or any where around the bay area) that allows 6 year old kids to shoot pistol? My 6 1/2yr old daughter has been wanting to shoot but I have no idea where to take her.

The have a great program for kids. Best of all it takes place on the multi purpose
range with only 22's at that time. This helps when kids are starting out.

Musketeers is the youth rifle/pistol program sponsored by the Diablo Gun Club. It is designed for children or grandchildren of USI members between the ages of 8 and 18. No fee is accessed and all the ammo and targets are supplied by the Diablo Gun Club. This is a fun youth group which teaches rifle/pistol safety along with an NRA Sportsmanship qualification program.

no mention of kids rates, so I guess it would be an extra $15 which kinda seems high.

However, there is a nice lake nearby across the street and several areas to check out the stream just little further up the road.


IIRC they also have several "22 only" ranges and a "22 only rapid fire" range.




Firing periods are 15 minutes or the discretion of Range Master.

No children under 6 are allowed on the range. Children age 6 through 17 must be coached by an adult who is within arm's length and paying full attention to the minor child .

Actually, I've been a longtime member of Diablo Rod & Gun Club and even longer user of the USI of Concord range, and I was disappointed to find out that nobody less than 8 years of age is allowed past the parking lot.

Yeah age limit is a bit high. My daughter just turned 8, we'll be hitting the range for the first time together soon.

Even though they're a bit spendy at $20 an hour, there's a new indoor, 10 lane range here in Modesto that I and my 8YO kid went to check out. Took the SR22 and several other pistols.

According to them, they won't let anyone under the age of 12 shoot any pistols for "insurance reasons." When I explained that other ranges I frequent don't have this limitation, they said that they were probably fudging the rules as set forth by their insurance and that 90% of ranges all use the same carrier and have a similar, if not the same, insurance policy.

For the same "insurance reasons," they don't allow any rapid fire, fast followups, or double taps. They don't allow drawing from holster except for their members and you have to go through their class.

I smiled, said thanks and left. (with no intent to return)

None of the private clubs, or other ranges, here in the area have such a restriction or if they do, enforcement is very lax. I've seen kids as young as 5 shooting 22 pistols of all kinds.

When I practice for defensive shooting, I ALWAYS practice 2 in the chest and one in the head. I told the counter guy at the new range here that he's likely to lose some business over their stringent rules. He didn't seem to concerned about it ... they are the only game in Modesto, for now. With rules like that, I'll go where I can safely shoot the way I want to shoot and with whom I want to shoot with.

Once the snow melts, it's National Forest Land for me and mine.
