To start, there really IS a gun in this picture, its just stealthily hidden .

The gun is chambered in 300 Blackout, the model is a friend of ours named Sylvia. I figuired you guys would much rather see her with my gun than me with my gun

Thank you! Took a few hours, cuz of the humidity and temp etc from the rain. If I did this in the summer time, it would have been done pretty quickly!

All I did was use Rustoleum camouflage (foliage green, OD, and dark brown). Prepped the rifle, put a good coat of foliage, let it dry and then applied the other colors with some painter's sponges. (in case anyone was thinking of doing a rattle can pattern somewhat like this)

I was sweating too! So, I painted a PMAG first, came out great, did 3 more and kept my other 2 regular (they're loaded with PDX1 HD rounds) and they came out great so I went all in! haha

Wow, impressive! I definitely don't have the skill (or the guts) to try that on my rifle. If I did try it, it would look like something went very wrong.

Thank you! It really is easy. I chose Rustoleum Camouflage colors (got mine from Home Depot). Foliage Green, OD Green, and Dark Brown. I also chose painters sponge (found at any art store) to apply 2 of the colors. And a couple of cheap plastic bowls I had from Walmart. The whole cost was roughly $20

Prep:

Take out the BCG and charging handle. Prep the rifle by rubbing it down with 91% rubbing alcohol to get all lubrication, solvents, etc off. Let it dry. Cover up (with masking tape) the front sight post, and rear sight, trigger. I taped up the rubber "controls" on my vortex strikefire because I wasn't sure if the paint would hold up on rubber. I filled the receiver with paper towels til it was snug to make sure nothing would get inside. Also made sure I had paper towel slightly protruding from the charging handle "hole". I took off my brake and plugged the barrel with a foam ear plug from the range and re-applied the brake. Since mine is a piston, take out the rod/spring assembly. I put in my little 10 rounder mag in to cover the mag well. I made sure I covered the gas port so no paint would get in there. You can also tape the numbering on your rails if you choose.

Painting:

I didn't hang her up, since I did this in a garage that has a car I'm working on in it still...so I laid down a good amount of newspaper and did one side at a time. I did a coat of Foliage Green using small, short sprays about 8" away. Making sure I didn't load on a ton of paint, but covering all of the rifle. Let it dry...flip it over and do the other side.

Once that's dry, I used a cheap Walmart plastic bowl and sprayed a decent amount of OD Green in it (spraying really close in the bowl so it wouldn't spray everywhere). I dipped a corner of sponge in and just dabbed in what would make a decent mid pattern (mostly randomly). Let it dry, and do the same with the Dark Brown (in a different bowl) and overlapped some of the OD Green.

Let that side dry, flip her over and repeat! I let her dry a few hours before I took off all the tape, out all the paper towels, lubed her up, and put in the BCG and charging handle, piston rod, and spring.

The mags and rifle took a couple days to lose their "tackiness" feel of the paint. Still haven't shot her yet since the paint job. But she feels good. Sounds ALOT more complicated than it actually is.

TL;DR

It is a lot easier than it seems, and prep is really everything. If you're nervous (like I was) paint something cheap as practice...buy a squirt gun at the dollar store or something, or paint a spare magazine. Find a pattern you like, experiment!
