Default What knife do you carry?

The other night I noticed one of our motors guys had one clipped in his boot and got me thinking? So now I want one.. any ideas?

Im not much on having a knife on me at all times but I keep aleatherman kick wave in the trunk but its a bit big to have on me.

So I dont want to spend an over 50 bucks beacuse gear that is nice tends to grow legs and disapear, or get lost in the day to day activities.

Any personal insite pros and cons on fixed vs folding that is my only hang up after that I know I with a tanto blade with serations.

I carry a Spyderco Paramilitary 2. easily one of the absolute BEST knives on the market. It was my first knife, I bought it for myself last Christmas. I am now NEVER without it, I even take it to the bathroom, and trips to the kitchen in my boxers at 3 am. its spendy but worth it, I just luckily found some in stock yesterday and ordered 2, one for me and one for my dad for Christmas. seriously, buy one. If you dont want to spend that much the Spyderco Manix 2 comes in at a close second place. you can find them for around $70

Once you start carrying a QUALITY knife. you won't ever leave your bedroom without one. I use my knife EVERY day.

No offense but where in the hell did you hear that? ha ha ha I carry a sog seal pup and my Ratmandu every single day on a belt clip. Its not illegal to carry fixed blades, they just need to not be concealed. NOW if your talking about Los Angeles you need to just move out now, they have the single dumbest knife laws in the world. yes, world.

In LA, they have a 3" knife rule for folders, if its longer than 3 inches it cannot be open carried.. Yeah super scary knives over 3" need to be concealed carried...WHAT Yeah thats the rule!

In the real world (outside LA) no limits on folders, just make sure every knife you carry is open carried to avoid problems.

Belt clips are considered exposed so you can carry a folder in your pocket with the clip showing and its good to carry.

If you are carrying for utility thats cool, if your carrying for defense take some classes.

OK I'll be the odd one out, I carried one of Cold Steels voyagers. Not the "new and improved" one, but the original made in Japan. I always had problems with opening the Spyderco's if I had gloves on. That was more user error than a problem with the knife I'm sure.

I carry a Kershaw Blur in my sap pocket on duty, in addition to 2 others (not Kershaw) that are hidden. The Kershaw has been an awesome blade for 'every day' use.

Can anyone debunk the quality of knives comming from say CRKT/Cold Steel I have one of each for camping they are priced great. Im not saying they are bad I just googled quality knives and several reviews bash those companies. But is that at a cost to quality. VS companies like Spyder Co, Kershaw, ESEE, ect... I personaly dont know much about knives I usally do the "if it feels solid, looks good, feels good, then it must be good.

I know LEOs are partial to Spyderco (GREAT knives) because of the success of the Police model but do you guys like Benchmades?

I know myself and lots of Civies always go back and forth over Spyderco and Benchmade like the old Ford Vs. Chevy debate with strong support for both sides.

I'm retired now, but my first knife was given to me by James Bowie.

Actually, I carried a Gerber knock off as a boot knife and some no name thing on my belt. When I was in patrol, most of the guys I worked with seemed to carry Buck knives since most of these others ones mentioned here were not made yet.

For work... it's a ten dollar S&W folder from Big 5. I've carried some nice (and expensive) knives on duty, and yep... they were either lost or stolen. Seems like you just can't help it with these things.
