Default Ammo Choices 12 Gauge Semi Auto

I took out my Lynx 12 semi auto ak style shotgun out today and it was a jam o matic. This is second time I’ve taken it out shooting for a total of 400 rounds. First trip I used Walmart Federal bulk (red box) and Walmart Super X. I had a few ftes and ftf. I assumed this was somewhat normal for break in and Walmart ammo.

Today I shot 200 rnds of Winchester universal. It’s was no bueno. Every mag had a fte. I’ve read that universal is regarded are some of the worst ammo for semis. Looking for some recommendations on better ammo to run. I bought some other ammo all above 1300 FPS for the next trip and one box of high brass. What do you guys feed your semis?

Use ammo with higher dram. Lots of semi autos are not made to cycle the light stuff.

What dram or FPS would you recommend running?

Winchester universal are no good. I've seen them jam in pumps and o/u's.

In my VEPR 12's i run nothing less than 3 1/4 DRAM and minimum of 1300 FPS. 7.5 shot Suprema if you can find any or Federal work flawlessly in my 12's.

You may wanna try gas setting 3 on your Lynx if you haven't yet, also lubrication...i grease my Vepr when the weather is nice and warm but once it starts getting mid 50's and lower like it's starting to now i change over to oil. Rails and hammer sometimes get dry with heat or gritty/burrs and may hang up at times.

Do you think 60% (setting 3) would be better than wide open for birdshot? I havenít messed with the gas setting to much yet so thatís an option.

I would surely try it, each gun is different and yours may like setting #4 over #1, #2 or #3 won't know until you try.

Just an update. I shot this past weekend and bought 2 types of Federal at 1290 and 1375 respectively and 3 types of Winchester ammo. The Winchester AA was the only one it choked up on. Federal seems to be the winner for shotgun ammo. Just bought some more of the two types of federal for further testing. Thanks again for all the input.
