Will be DROSing a 10/22 Takedown at Counterstrike in Hemet Sunday so my son and I can both attend. We have been looking forward to this for awhile, but haven't had two 10/22s. It looks like if we don't make the cut for the patch in Nov we get another shot in Dec.

VintageDUG,

Glad you and your son will be joining us! As you noted, we will be back at Corona, in December, just in case.

I'm really hoping to make it out as well in November. Only will be able to come Saturday, but I figure one day is better than none!

Question: would it be possible to pay for a two day course and attend two Saturday events (I'm not available Sundays)?

I'm sure this has been answered 100 times already, but is there a way to attach the slings without major mods to the 10/22s? Both of them have the synthetic stocks. After paying for another rifle I don't want to pay for new stocks or make permanent mods if I don't have to.

I have a thread here regarding swivel installation. Check out the 7th post. From what I've found the only two non permanent solutions are the barrel band swivel stud or zip ties.

Correct. If you want it to be non-permanent, this is the way to go. You only need an attachment at the front to use the loop sling.

Other alternative is to buy a replacement stock and modify it accordingly.

If it was me (and it was, once) I'd go ahead and make the permanent modification and be done with it. A rifle without a sling is like a birthday without cake! Heck, my shotguns have slings now...

I can work with you on that. Just please have in mind what other event you want to attend. We'll have to get both shoot bosses involved, and it's much more difficult to get a refund out of National if you change your mind.

Thanks. Just watched the You Tube video of it being done to a Take down. Doesn't look to hard.

Just signed up for this one, perfect way to spend my birthday, embarrassing myself while I shoot a rifle without a bipod! It's been a lot of years since I've shot with just a sling and iron sights... hmmm, I might leave the scope on.
Now I just need to decide which rifle to bring, the 338LM or the 22LR

We had another guy not too long ago thinking about using a .338 Lapua.

If you can afford the ammo, go for it. Plan for 600 rounds for the weekend... call it an even $2000. (You are reloading, aren't you?)

Otherwise, .22LR will be fine. The same skills apply.

I have a load worked up that's great for sub 500yrd target/hunting at under a buck a round... Nah, I'll bring the 22
I think I'll save everyone's ears (and my shoulder), a 338 at 25yrd/m is just a wee bit overkill.

Danny,

Couple of things on the horizon that might work with your schedule. Check out the thread in this subforum on the 3 Day full distance, Men's Only, AS up at Piru on the 10-12 of November. All the good AS stuff plus steel out to 1000 yds!!! Also have 3 events to choose from in Socal on weekend of December 15-16, Corona, Burro Canyon and Piru. Hope you can make one of these events.

Just noticed you prefer the USGI cotton slings, the only one I have (and have experience with) for this type of shooting is a leather M1907/Turner with frogs. Would that be ok?

Wish I could make it to the Piru one (sorta far from OC), hate to miss a chance to work on steel at 1k!

1907s work just fine! They're just a little harder to set up and more pricey, so we emphasize the M1 slings for most shooters. The best 1907's are riveted - we've seen some of the stapled ones give up under the wear of an Appleseed weekend.

Would a foam camping pad like this work alright for a shooting mat? My wife also has a thinner yoga mat I could use. I'd rather not spend money on one right now if I can find a suitable substitute.

I would go with the camping pad vs the yoga mat. Any kind of mat is a lot better than none.

Yup.

There is no cover at Rahaague's. Bring tarps for the ground and pop-up covers if you have them, dress warmly, bring jackets. We don't cancel just because it's wet, though we will adjust as needed for safety reasons.

Been dry firing at home for 2 weeks and getting ready.
It seemed like I took the last spot and my friend and his 2 sons could not make it.
Ryan, I Pm'd you about probably I cannot attend most of Sat. so if you have a someone who can benefit from the high instruction of Sat. day, please give my one spot to them.
I for sure will be there trying to earn a patch Sun.!

Eight (8) folks from Mesa Tactical will be there, including a young boy. The rest are mostly women. Just spent most of yesterday putting slings on rifles.

Hitting a one inch square at 25 yards is hard!

When it gets dark.

Realistically, we should finish shooting about 4 PM these days, and then do some cleanup.

My son and I had a great time! A huge shout out and THANK YOU to Pat for the extra help on Sunday. I went from shooting in the 50s to a high of 177 due to her dedication and support. I've already ordered Tech Sights for the Take Down and a scope for the other 10/22. Great meeting everyone and congratulations again to the new riflemen and the new orange hat.

I second VintageDUGS shoutout. Had some problems with my rifle but the instructors were extremely helpful and got me through the day.

I definitely got better but not as good as I hoped. This is no fault of Appleseed though, just that two days of shooting isn't enough to internalize the skills. I'm going to take what I learn, practice at home, and then come back to hopefully score a rifleman on the AQT.

Thanks for the great weekend and for driving so far for us!

Great Sun. What a great group of instructor volunteers in Psych Doc, Penny's Dad, Woof Doc., Jeff who took time from S.D. and AS Rocketman. Great weather and a packed double stacked line.
3 patches were earned. Thanks everyone, I look forward to passing it forward and helping in the future.

Ya know, I thought we'd be handing out some Rifleman patches after our results on Saturday. Glad to see so many nice folks out there.

If you didn't make it this time, we've got plenty of shoots before the year's out!

I took my standing shooting from absolute crap to keeping ten rounds in the black on my AQTs in just two days! With practice I know I can take my 165, 169, 175 scores and make rifleman soon. Big thanks to all the instructors

This was a fantastic shoot! Thanks to everyone who came out to shoot with us this weekend. I hope you had as good a time as I did! And thanks to our dedicated volunteers who set aside their other commitments to make this shoot happen. I will get an after action report w/ pics up on the RWVA forum in a day or two and will post a link here.

All the best,
Robert

Just found out why the rest of our team didn't show up Sunday: they were exhausted from Saturday's training and hurt in places they didn't know they had! But they loved the training and now that they know what it's about they intend to practice and show up for at least one more Appleseed to earn their patches.

We have a monthly company fun shoot at Burro Canyon. From now on it looks like there is going to be a lot more serious shooting than we have done in the past.

A very impressive project, Ingrid and I will be telling everyone we know about it, and I am already shopping for several Appleseed rifles I can loan to friends. We have a circle of rather liberal friends and acquaintances and we agree this is something they all should be exposed to, something they might not otherwise ever consider. And we're sure they would enjoy it and recognize its importance.

A home dry fire practice range will be set up in the hallway between the bedrooms. We couldn't decide who between Robert or Ryan was the better instructor, each did an excellent job.

December and January are crazy months for us, but we'll be back soon.
