Been at Pine Flat three times in the last 2 months... a few weeks ago there were 5 groups shooting, over20 people! Guess the secret is out...
Last weekend the place was pretty bad. I took a half a dozen fire extinguishers out of there, some shot up computers, a garbage bag full of shotgun shells and boxes..... I always bring back a few bags of garbage in my truck. But there was still a lot there when I left (including that ragged satellite dish mentioned above) Seems like it might be good to sneak in a clean up day before the rain starts. I've never organized one but my hands and my Tacoma are ready and willing if anyone wants to put one together. |

Never been there, but I'd be willing to help out to give me an excuse to make the long drive.

Then you're going to be on private land, and liable to get a ticket.

BTW the shooting spot at the top, around the corner, is not strictly a legal place to shoot. It's not 150 yards from the road. The sheriff doesn't have a problem with it though, so... |

I went up today. It needs a good cleaning. It was embarrassingly bad. I brought back what would fit in the back of my SUV, but several truck loads remained. I will be glad to attend a full clean up if someone else organizes it.

On a less cheerful note, Pine Flat is officially closed as a legal shooting area. Signage will be going up soon. I fought for it to stay open for the last five years, but it looks like it's over.

The area that we've been shooting on is private land. The BLM land has no legal access without trespassing to it. The BLM land behind the private land is also designated as a "no target shooting" area, or however they word it, by the feds.
The BLM website should reflect that soon. |

Went up to Pine Flat yesterday and just about at the top a ranger appeared to be chit chatting with someone in a pickup. As I drove by he waved me down so I stopped and rolled my window down, he walked up and told me that there is "no shooting up here if thats what you were planning on doing." I said thanks and we continued on our way. I was appreciative that he was proffesional about it and didn't go out of his way to harass me about the guns I had with me, want to inspect/search them, etc, but I was bummed to learn that I drove all the way up there and was unable to shoot. I continued to the top and turned around to head back down the hill and he was walking his way up (I assumed to talk to the group of guys that was up there shooting already) so I stopped again to talk to him and asked him when this no shooting policy went into effect, since I had thought it was BLM land. He said it has been in effect since 2011, but every time they put signs up, people just rip them down. He continued to say that it was a decision that went through the Ukiah field office and there was never any comments on it at the time so it stood. Closest place BLM land we can shoot on now is Cow mountain
