Default putting a better (and kitchen hygenic) handle on Old Hickory?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ontario-Knif...4AAOSwZtJW9F15

Seems to sharpen up real nice and easy, even if the edge doesn't last that long, with cheap-O ebay sharpener.

My only complaint is the handle is rather "basic" and even after de-horning the top of the butt into something more like a pistol grip knife handle its still far from what I'd want for anything more than causal domestic kitchen use.

Don't want parachord because I think it will hold grease and old food, and tend to fester and stink, unless ran through a high temp dishwasher everytime.

What options are there to wrap or otherwise augment a handle that wont become a breeding ground for Wee Beasties in the kitchen?

Any non-porous plastic wraps? I'm thinking 1970s style 10spd bike handlebar wraps but don't see a good way to tie them off.

What I WANT is a two piece mold that clips over the existing handle and onto the blade, then pour in epoxy or plastic, then pop-off mold to reveal nice x-large size ergo-handle.

I'm kinda surprised they don't have something like this for serious chefs with diff sized hands.

They do have different sized handled knives for different sized hands.
But they are not cheap. Unlike the one in your picture. Either spend the money or maybe cover your handle with heat shrink tubing. You can find it in lots of colors. All thats needed is a hair dryer to shrink to fit. Good luck.

I would say this ~ But the OH are carbon. I would just use, hand wash & then dry. They are cheap enough to try one using the above method & see how it goes...... Remember, old timers used carbon & wood knives forever and lived ~

Many folks use this type of epoxy. Good for boats

http://www.truevalue.com/product/Mar...Putty/6856.uts

Kinda like bondo- build it up, let it cure, sand to fit your hand

Thx, now I'm thinking maybe paracord, THEN that stuff, and work it into the cord before it sets so it bonds everything to wood and tang and rivets. Would use 5X a normal dip but who cares.

thx, I'm thinking it would need some fiberglass or wire to keep it from cracking off the wooden handle after repeated washings and handlings.
