Default Shipping firearms to an FFL 01 holder

Hello,

Is it possible to have firearms shipped directly to you if you only hold an FFL01 from the ATF?

Was thinking of getting an FFL 01 but not sure if that allows me to have firearms shipped directly to me for personal use

Thanks

As long as you get all of the required licenses/permits, yes, but it is for business, not personal collection and all the costs are not cheap.

If you're in CA you also need the DOJ permits otherwise a CA DOJ Firearm Shipment approval number can't be generated for you.

What DOJ permits are required. I have been looking hard at trying my hand with an 01 for a home based side business. I have already checked my zoning and I am good with no business permits. As far as I can tell the only thing I would need is a COE, Seller permit from BOE, and listing on the DOJ CLFD. Am I missing anything?

Listing on the DOJ CLFD is what I was referring to.

You would need a letter stating that you are not required to get a business license. It can be worse when it is not needed since you have to prove that.

^^This

And you will fill out ATF forms stating this is for business and not for personal gain. If you go through all the hoops, have a dedicated safe separate from your personal collection and maintain the licenses and permits, that of course do not all line up date wise on renewals, pay a lot of fees and sign up with a few wholesalers that are happy with your "home based" business, then you can buy as much as your pocket book allows. Then during your first inspection, you show you have DROSed several from your company to yourself and no sales to others...you will be warned and potentially lose the license thereafter. And also, the markup from small business wholesale to big box retail, is literally dollars.

But, its still great to have an FFL for the right reasons.

Good luck

Some entities require you get a permit to sell firearms from your local Law Enforcement agency in lieu of a "business permit" from your city or county. Might check into that as well.

Also, consult your home owners insurance policy as some forbid home based businesses of various types due to liability.
