Default Turners Glocktoberfest

I saw the G29SF (chopped G20) for $549; $600ish after taxes. Seems perfect for hiking in non grizzly areas.

I know nothing about Glocks after the first 6 models so what's the Calguns skinny on their "compact" G20 sized models? What does SF mean?

Great gun for hiking/woods/hunting back up. I myself use a G20

SF means short frame n that price is not that great that’s what most LGS sell it for. (Pending on your area)

It’s a handful of 10mm goodness. Reports say they run just fine on .40 fodder, and eat the smoking hot boutique ammo just fine. Only room for two-finger hold, supposed to be about as much recoil as heavy .357’s in a snubnose.

I’d go for the full size personally, but if you actually leave the pavement and carry regularly, the G29sf would be a lot of pop in a portable package.

A G29SF with a KKM 6 inch barrel, a 21lb recoil spring, Pearce pinkie extensions and some hot hardcast rounds from Buffalo Bore would also be fine in grizzly areas, when needed. Of course, with all the extras, it would cost quite a bit more than a stock G20.

.

Yep, plenty of possibilities. I think the Pearce pinkie rest is a must have add on. Until I pick up the gun I won't know about the spring change, if it's unreliable then I'll have to do it. As far the bbl, maybe the G20 length if I upgrade it at all.

Yep, my bad. I meant the 4.5 KKM barrel.

Less than 75 years after the discovery of gold in 1848, every grizzly bear in California had been tracked down and killed. The last hunted California grizzly was shot in Tulare County, California in August 1922.

Just an FYI

I have a 29 SF and it's a fine little gun.

Shooting off the shelf 10 mm is very pleasant, likely because many 10 mm ammo is loaded only to .40 S&W levels or just slightly above. Buffalo Bore full power rounds kick a bit more and require proper technique, but not unpleasant and quite manageable. Pinky extension works really well.

I will be adding it to my CCW and use it as an outdoors gun. Already bought an OWB Bladetech holster for it.

various models of Glocks come in "SF" version. It just means the back strap of the grip is slightly recessed. Some with smaller hands feel those versions are better fit. You need to try the regular & SF model to see which one "fits" better for you

I am 6' 2" and don't have small hands but I found the 30 SF (45ACP) fit me better than the 30 did. Like any gun....you need to "try it on"

Perhaps he would like to hike other areas outside of CA. The G29 and bear spray covers a lot of potential threats where bigger critters (and some ner-do-well 2-legged critters) may abide.

Yeah in grizzly country I would probably want something like the 6 in bbl 10mm model (Glock 40?) and bear spray. Here locally though, there's nothing the lil G29 can't kill.
