Default LEO's & Bullet Button

Hi everyone I got a quick question. Do police officers have to use a bullet button on their own personal (non duty rifle) ar 15 rifles in Ca?

You think if a fed LE would get pulled over with a regs
AR with no BB will get booked for no BB?

Unless they got a letter a authorizing them to register as an AW, yes. Federal LE in California must follow California law.

Question has been asked and answered. Any comments on "what if" are inappropriate.

I'm local LE and all of my personal AR's have bullet buttons. I keep my 30 rounders separate with my work gear.

No case law on LE use of non-RAW "features" AR in CA without BB.

Some think US HR 218 may cover this...but have money and lawyer up before hand as you will be setting case law!

I've always wondered that. From time to time I run a rotation tow call I peep in the squad car but can never see the mag release. Never asked cause I don't know how they will react.

What you would see in a patrol unit would be a department owned AR or a department authorized AR/AW. Plenty of guys have a personally owned department authorized AR with regular magazine release and 30 round magazines and other personally owned rifles that must have BB.

Yeah but I wasn't for certain if agencies had to play by the same rules as us.

It depends on the Dept. The Chief or the Sheriff can sign off for anything. I know guys that have AR Pistols with no BB, AK with no rad lock. It all depends on the boss and what he likes.

Ditto on that. I had an authorized AR with no BB that I used for SWAT at my agency. I promoted out of the team, thus my AR came with me. My dept does not issue letters or give exemptions to the law regarding AR's because they issue long guns to every officer. so I had to install a bullet button and now I use ten round mags like everyone else. It sucks but better safe than sorry.
