Once you add the barrel and pay someone to do the head spacing you will be fairly close to the akbuilder one pricewise?

$389 for the kit.
$90 for the barrel.
If you pay more than $30 for population, the $509 kit is cheaper...

And I have never heard of anyone offering head space, and barrel population for $30.

The statement seems pretty simple to me.
The rear trunion may be bent and would need to be straightened...

Not that I can't read what it says: but would definitely make the build more complicated. Or does a hammer and vise grips fix the problem? Little issues like this make it so much better to build with an expert that can resolve small issues like this an others... Ak is building, not just assembling. I'm thankful for those that share their knowledge.

Polish underfolder rear trunions are sheetmetal.

You could straighten one just fine with a pair of crescent wrenches.

So...last time I talked about going to another BP I said I would do a '47.

I really wanted something unique to put together, a bit battle used, something historic...almost...sacred. A rifle with a story to tell so to speak.

I dug through the Polish kits, looked through worn Yugo's, but wanted something more...

Then I remembered that one build from the party. The BIG one.

Yeah. I wanted THAT. RedChevyMan is selling a couple more, but this the last with the adjustable sight.

This thing will be WAY more fun to talk about at the range IMHO. Just needs to be put together.

...when is the next BP?

RPKs are definitely pretty cool to shoot, the Romanian my son built and the Yugo M72 I built are favorites with the guys I shoot with at BLM land spot.

They are heavy though. Definitely a bench gun IMHO.

$330 original barrel kit from centerfire with $15 demilled cut receiver.
(Ah.....The good ole days)

Regardless of numbers, all Romy RPK's were built at Cugir, right?

I could not for life of me find one (for reasonable money) with matching numbers. Some information blogs also highlighted a common problem with kits having trunnions missing.

Sight block and trunnion are one number and bolt, carrier, and dust shield are another.

Someone also reamed the front trunnion to 8mm. I was given the oversized barrel pin, but if I do another population, I can't ream it at the next party like my last one...

Gotta do it right the first time out for the next fit.

Is there a recommended method for test firing kit built guns? Also what paperwork do you guys keep with your guns to prove they are legal?

Start with 1 round in the mag.
The gun should cycle and leave the hammer to the rear.
After firing the round, release the trigger and then pull it again.
The hammer should fall on an empty chamber.
If that works a couple times, load 2 rounds.
The rifle should extract the fired cartridge and load the next one with each trigger pull.

Starting with only 1-2 rounds in the beginning ensures that if there are fire-control issues that the gun will not "run away" in full auto.

What's the location decision, did anyone plan to buy a bunch of kits at a group deal, and when was this for?

The party was in Fresno, several months ago.

It cracks me up when people come into this thread and have not even bothered to read through it before posting questions like that.
