Default Hello :)

Heya everyone!

My name is Rob, I am a wedding & portrait photographer based in Riverside, CA. I have been married to my awesome wife, Natalie, for almost 21 years now. We have 2 kids and a granddaughter.

I have always been a conservative who tended to vote republican, and I have been a Christian for about 10 years or so.

I have also been a supporter of the Second Amendment since I knew what it was. I had always intended to buy a gun since I turned 21, but I always put it off. It was just never a high priority for me. But with the way the country seems to be headed, it started to seem like a more important idea. Now, lately, it seems at least probable that it may become EXTREMELY difficult to buy a firearm. The last two things that really made me go ahead and buy one is first, the area we live in is becoming worse and worse. We have had our car broken into several times, and we have had things stolen out of our back yard - we have even had our neighbors tell us (twice) that someone had tried to break into our home, once while we were at home asleep. The other reason is that I am a photographer - I frequently find myself, along with my wife and most often a young woman model, out in the middle of nowhere - and I also have thousands of dollars of camera gear that I can't replace easily, and I rely on to make my living. In the past, this wasn't such an issue. The area was safer, I was younger and physically better able to protect my wife and myself. But now, the entire area is getting worse (not the least of which is because of the homeless crisis in our area, and some of them are unfortunately, dangerous) - and I am older, slower, and have an injury that makes it less likely that I could defend my wife or myself nearly as well as I used to be able to. We have had some scary incidents on photoshoots before!

So I bought a Smith & Wesson SD9VE (CA compliant version, obviously). I know, it's not the greatest gun, but I could afford it, and I know the Smith & Wesson name - so I went with it. The 9mm choice was simply because the guy behind the counter pointed out that it was cheaper to shoot. Seemed like a reasonable argument, so I went with the 9mm.

I am now working very hard to be a safe and responsible gun owner. I practice at the range when possible, I bought some "snap caps" for dry fire practice, and I recently got one of those laser bullet training systems for (allegedly) even better dry fire practice - not sure if those are worth it or not. When I bought the gun, I went straight from the gun store to the gun range and took a basic handgun safety course, and intend to take all the safety and tactical courses I can. I am also in the process of applying for a CCW permit.

Anyway, thats my story - thanks for readin

Take care all,
Rob

Welcome Rob.

Many (well...., some) here like the SD9VE after the trigger is replaced (Apex I think).

Good luck on the CCW.

Hi Rob (Supahrob), welcome to Calguns. Expensive equipment and remote locations might work to your advantage when applying for a LTC. Remember that it boils down to preservation of life (yours and those around you, not necessarily protection of things (equipment).

Thank you
Yeah, my primary concern is and always will be protecting my wife - but I also have the well being of the model as well. They are almost always beautiful and very small women. We have had men wander into the shoot several times, and more often than I would like, it seemed like the situation could go sideways very easily. I hope to be able to better protect my wife and those around me in situations like this

Although, I gotta admit, I truly hope to go the rest of my life without EVER having to shoot someone. I would if I really had to, but I pray that I will never have to - just not something I want to have to live with.

Take care,
Rob

Hello everyone! Just recently started exercising my 2nd amendment. Picked up a marlin 795 and built an AR after a few months. I really enjoy plinking and want to get into possibly competition shooting and/or long distance shooting in the future.

I hope I am posting to the correct forum! So far I am enjoying reading the posts! Hopefully someone can help me. I would like to post a few firearms fo sale, and there is a note that states I need to read the rules. I cannot locate them. I would appreciate it if someone would point me in the right direction!
Thanks,
Fishorhunt? (yes, I enjoy both!!)

Default New guy checking in

Hey there everybody. I've been lurking a bit just reading and figured it was time I finally joined in. I live in northern California in beautiful Sonoma county. Been shooting since I was a kid, and grew up on a small farm in the valley between the bay area and Sacramento. We would mostly hunt pheasant in the fields near my house and plink with our .22 rifles.

I've worked in the emergency services as a firefighter/EMT for about the past 10 years. Lately I've really wanted to start getting more handgun training for myself and my girlfriend who recently got into shooting with me. Hoping to gain some knowledge from spending time here on the forum with you fine folks.

My other interests include weight training, hiking, and archery. I'd like to eventually start bow hunting too once I get a bit better at archery.

Hello Calgunners,

First time poster, long time lurker of the market forum drooling over stuff I'd like to buy.

Decided to take up shooting again recently, haven't shot anything since I was a teen and just bought my first NIB firearm, a Cz if my name didn't give it away. First of many probably.

How come when I hit the back button/swipe left the page takes me back to the top of the page instead of my original position down the thread?

Hola everybody!

Eric the accountant checking in. Carried an M16A2 in the army 20 years ago, but finally bought a Glock 19 and signed up for training at ITTS at the (supposedly) getting-up-there age of 39. Planning on a shotgun in the fall (probably a 590A1), making 2018, for me, The Year of the Gun. Hopefully the first of many.
