Does your range have a rule about picking up your brass?
Today I went to my local range that I frequent atleast once a month an they have a new casino rule, if your personal property (brass) touches the ground you can't pick it up. To me it seems that they are wanting you to fill their resource for brass and may play it off as a safety thing. Does your range do this? And if they do what is their Reasoning behind it?
On a good note my first batch of reloads worked 100% and were consistent. Too bad I can't have my brass back |

Yep
Local range says leave the brass alone Then they pick it up and sell it by the pound, that's not guessing its exactly what the owner told me they do with it Though he did day if I mark my brass I can pick it up A blue sharpie across the primers and casing while the rounds are still in the box makes that easier |

I dont reload (I should be getting into it) but thats just plain stupid!
If you brought it you should be able to take your own back. They are theives!

My range is cool with picking up MY brass, but frowns on taking from others. Since they sell mostly reloads they really need the brass. I made a catcher out of aluminum angle and a laundry bag. Mounted on a camera tripod and can recover most of them. Since they said if it touches the ground it's theirs, I would just lay down a drop cloth in the booth.

Ya I see that is becoming a common trend with ranges. I’m sure the range fear people scooping up every piece of brass in sight, and its money out of their pocket.
My local range does allow me to pick my brass, and my brass only... I do mark all my brass with a sharpie across the case head, both for my own organization/identification and also to prove it’s my brass should anyone question me. I’ve honesty thought of just buying a couple revolvers. It would be nice to not have to constantly chase my brass. |

My range lets you pick up your own brass. I normally shoot during off peak times and get the corner booth. I also sweep away any brass I see in the area before shooting so that picking up my brass is easier at the end of the trip.

My local range frowns on you picking up OTHER people's brass but have no problems with you picking up your own. I don't reload yet but I pick everything up along with stuff that is near mine because I have a reloader who buys the brass.

I'm not sure, even as a private business, they have a right to your property. Theft is a crime, and it seems like that is what they're pulling. You don't get carte blanche as a private business to violate the law.
Easiest way is to name the douche range, drive away their business, and go somewhere else. |

Same here that is why I stop going to ontarget and just stick to firingline. I only go to ranges that allow me to pick up my brass.

and this is why i use only aluminum blazer for my 9mm at indoor ranges, and i use my brass stuff for outdoor ranges where i can lay out a mesh fabric to easily collect my brass again (and lets all the dirt fall through)

As long as they make it clear up front it's just part of the admission fee. That being said it's pretty lame to have a policy that restrictive. I don't think I've shot anywhere that wouldn't let you pick up your own brass, possibly requiring some form of marking and knowing that if stuff falls in front of the firing line it may be impractical to recover all of it.

LA Gun Club has that policy. I agree that it's complete BS...and I haven't been back in years because of it.

Wow that's crazy I haven't shot at a range in years only Forest land. Last time I shot at a range they let you pick up your own brass and they never said anything when you picked up a little extra as long as you didn't go overboard.
I guess someone just might have to slip on all the brass that is laying around on the ground. Just a joke I hate stupid lawsuits. |

I'v never had a problem picking up my own brass. I've seen others chase their brass a couple lanes over without a mention. I suppose if it looked like someone was scrounging around and taking what they could find there would be an issue, but I've never seen it.

Never seen it anywhere I shoot. I don't reload (yet) but I collect up what I can. One trip out the guy next to me was shooting a 1911 that was hucking his brass into my range bag. My kids "alerted"e I should move my bag but if the other guy didn't want it anyway I was ok with it, its not range brass if it never hits the range right?

Isn't it funny how things change? A few years back, the range I frequented would be pissed if you didn't pick up your brass.
Beaumont range doesn't allow you to collect brass either (though you can use a brass catcher) and while they admit they sell the brass, they cite safety for the reason. |

I'd be finding a different range.

can we name some ranges that prevent pickups?
you paid for your brass, you can take it. I would love to see them challenge that in court. And if they try to ban you without refunding your membership, for picking up your own property, they will be on thin ice legally

I'm still trying to figure out the "safety reason" aspect of it.
The range I go to says to pick up only your own brass but they don't enforce it, well, not that I have seen anyway. Even then there is still a boat load of brass that people sweep into the lanes that they pick up daily and I'm sure, sells.

There was one time i was shooting groups with my .270, and I was being careful to collect by brass and place it on the table everytime i chambered a new round. Then, while i was zeroed in on my target, on of the rangemasters took all of my brass off my bench, that i was shooting at, and threw it in their can.
I was literally at a loss for words |

And this dude comes and steals your brass off of your bench, and you were just at a loss for words ? I could see pistol brass hitting the floor , mixing with numerous other brass...but someone approaching my bench and reaching for anything unannounced is going to be treated harshly with extreme prejudice. He would not have touched my brass, period. One time , a member here...said some stranger picked up his pistol off of his bench and either was fondling it or actually shooting it by the time he noticed it missing. Point is, even when shooting at the range...you need to be aware of your surroundings/personal space at all times. |

It's one of those things that seems like a good idea (raise money), but may turn out not to be (lose customers).
Brass is expensive, especially now. Not gonna pay a range fee if they take three times that much or more in brass. |

The reason of this post is not to out any range, but it seems to be a decent kick in the nads due to ammo situation. I understand it's a way to get a couple bucks and to generate your own reload supply for your range, but to take someone's property and then have the nerve to sell my property to the public is not ethical business practice. I will frequent this range again if, -I get a heavily discounted entry fee Or -I get a cut of what they sell it for, even if it's just 5$. If any range ends up seeing this, you are losing a dollar by saving a nickel. |

I told a guy at Angeles last time that I was keeping my brass, later another one tried to come and broom up like 20 rounds I hadn't gotten to yet as I was shooting a couple mags. I told him I'm keeping it, so put it back. He gave me a dirty look and emptied the broom tray. Watevers, my brass is my brass. I might even start keeping my 9mm brass but definitely I keep my 223 and 308 brass

Owner's response, see last post. Thread locked already. I work there, many of you have know me, or have taken the Rifle Safety Qualification course with me. From my perspective, it's another one of those case that other people screw it up for all of you, very much similar to what our "No Shotgun" policy came into place. We have seen people stealing brass when they pick up brass 3 lanes from each side of their own lane, or use push rod to pull brass back to pick up what's already down range; we have our high dollar value reload ammo brass keep disappearing (357Mag, .44SPL/Mag, 45LC). We simply do not have the manpower to watch over everyone who claims to be "picking up my own brass only". Please note we do not charge sales tax on range reload because those ammo were intended to be used in our range only, and we keep the brass. Our reload ammo supplier depends on us to return the brass to them, and will raise the price if we can't return the right amount of brass back. With all of above, we are now strictly enforcing what has being our brass policy. As for those who claim safety issues is BS, while you are on the ground moving around to pick up those brass, people who walk by may trip over you, especially when we get crowded. Losing dollar over a nickel may be if you don't count the thousands of dollar we could save on the lawyer fee. For those of you who claim will not be back, I hope you find a better range that would accommodate your need. For those of you who continue to utilize our facility, we appreciate your business. However, please remember we have a business to run and we have set rules for this business that will be follow strictly. Please review our range rules and ask any questions you might have, this way we don't have to breath down your neck all the time.

WTF does this mean? You sell someone reloads and you think the brass still belongs to you?
