Default Training

Does anyone have any recommendations on training for Monterey County? The SO website lists several possible companies, but many are out of date. The email response I got from the SO says that I need to upload a certificate from 16 hour training prior to my appointment date. I cannot find anyone except for Tremper Tactical that lists upcoming classes, and theirs is only 8 hours.

Default Monterey *** TIME TO APPLY!!! (w/caveat) ***

831shooters
Talk to David
I'm guessing the site is inaccurate as to the 16 hours
Tremper and 831 provide sufficient training for Monterey

In case anyone hasn't heard, ALL, yes all of the monterey ccw investigators have left, they currently have 1 Temporary person doing the backgrounds.
No they were not fired. They simply are no longer with the department
Good news, appointments are only out to mid September, my guess is the appointments will start stacking up and many of the existing ones will be cancelled/rescheduled. If you plan on applying get started and get an appointment now.

Yes, and as I mentioned, he's due only a few months, no clue yet who will be taking over from there. PM me if you need something specific

Submitted application 2/9/17, my interview was 5/15/17, officially approved on 9/5/17 and picked up on 9/6/17. There was a big delay because of the shake up of the department as discussed above.

That's great. My interview date was 6/5 so hopefully I'll get an answer soon. How did they contact you? Phone or email?

Does anyone know how long you are required to be a resident of Monterey county before you may apply? The only requirement I could find is that you are currently a resident but, I want to make sure before applying. I have the required residency documents.

I ask because I previously lived in San Bernardino County where until recently, they required 6 months or a year of residency before you could apply.

As far as I know, there is no length of residency requirement. They did not ask me how long I’ve been resident. They just asked for the last five years of residence history. The folks at the sheriffs office are very friendly. Just call them and ask.

Just apply, if there is a minimum time requirement it will be met by the time you get issued. Apply now before it gets backed up, its about to

It seems it has been bad. I applied in April 2017, took classes in June had interview in July, have not heard since. Online site shows

Assigned to Processor / Processing Order / status pending...

Seems like the answer is no

I posted this in another thread thought I’d update this on

Monterey good cause is SD
No psych
App starts online, have a copy of your drivers license and other proof of residence ready to upload
I think appointment for live scan is within a couple months, I know a guy I mentioned it to less than 2 months ago and he was in just yesterday for his livescan/appointment
Initial app fee of $138
Final due on issuance of $80
Total to MCSO/DOJ $218
Add you’re class costs to that which are anywhere between 50 and 500, depending on who you choose of course
Monterey is pretty painless these days
i know quite a few new new ccw holders and none of them have done a psych (although it is listed on their website

Is the fact that someone has a CCW known to other law enforcement (e.g CHP, city police, etc)? For example, the CHP pull up behind a car driven by a driver with a CCW. Does their CCW show up when the plate is run?

Not by default, it would take a bit of behind the scenes programming. They would have to scrape the registered owner name for the plate, then run that against the gun system. If they were to do that, yes if you are registered owner and you have a CA ccw, they will see the ccw in the list of firearms you own, any ccw gun is listed as ***CCW***

Applied in April. Missed first interview in July. Rescheduled for September. Approved 02/08/2018. I know they followed up on references (by email). Not sure if they interviewed neighbors. Fairly painless, just long and drawn out with very little communication.

Has anyone gotten a non-resident from Monterey? I live in Santa Clara County but travel at least 10 times to Salinas every quarter.

Even if you could I seem to recall nonresident permits for business purposes are good for only 30 days?

Default Monterey County CCW

I'm reaching out to current Monterey County CCW permit holders as I recently took a local CCW class where I was informed that your carry guns need to be registered to you but do not need to be on the current DOJ Roster. During the application process the County's website mentioned the guns need to be registered to the person carrying them and on the current roster. Can anyone clarify this? I'm hoping I was mis-informed and that we can carry off-roster handguns as long as they're registered to the issued permit holder and that you of course qualify with them.
Thank you in advance!

My niece's husband is a Monterey Co. CCW holder. He has a Glock 43 (non-roster) on his permit. It is registered to him. Hope this helps.

Hi Guys, I’ve lived in the County 21 years and have been thinking about doing this, or trying anyway. My family are all LEO and tell me to give it a shot. It would be for SD only.

Q1: What is GMC? Good cause?

Q2: Does being an NRA Certified Instructor in Basic Pistol (& used that to get the DOJ HSC Certified Instructor ), buy you anything as far as the training requirements? (Come to think of it, a PPOTH cert would probably be a lot better.) Not saying I’m anything special, just trying to cut thru the bureaucracy as much as possible.

Also, if they talk to my co-workers I’m boned; they’re all to the left of Pelosi, and don’t even think the police should have guns. I don’t tell _anyone_ there I shoot, or reload, or even am Conservative. It’s that bad.

Thanks for any info on those two points.

GMC is good moral character. As for your co-workers, tell the Sheriff’s investigator about them during your interview. The investigator doesn’t have to tell your co-workers (or neighbors) that you’ve applied for a CCW. You should also ask about your certifications during the interview. I recall seeing some exemptions but don’t remember what they are. Good luck.

The problem MCSO has with off roster is only when someone used single shot and made the caliber something diff and registration says the glock 43 is a 50caliber 8” barrel, etc... those that have been denied as that result have went and are dros’d to be the correct caliber/dimensions
Typically unless you have the above issue off roster will be fine, I know lots of folks with off roster guns on their ccw

Who’s class did you take

1. Personal defense is sufficient
2. No, you’ll still have to take an approved by the county class (unless you’re prior LE)
3. They don’t ALWAYS talk to coworkers, they just keep the option open in case they feel the need to do so

Thank you for your responses! I used 831 Shooter for the CCW class and highly recommend Dave (Owner).
