Default Any 40th ID folks at Los Alamitos

Hey,

Just wondering if there were any 40 ID folks that drill at Los Alamitos here on CalGuns.

Curious to meet like minded folks and maybe chat at drill when we get there. Maybe even discuss the upcoming overseas events.

Ahhh. JFTB Los Alamitos. The Crown Jewel of the CAARNG.. All the amenities of a 5 star resort and so much more! I spent many drills in my SUV since I didn't want to pay for the billeting. Building 18 was always locked ( squad bay) unless arranged with orders. Still the safest place in LA to sleep/rest. I've seen odd things on that base at night..

Nahhh...the "Crown Jewel" of CAARNG is Camp Roberts.

There's a place that is worth losing to the abyss.

You still in?

Camp Bob? I almost got kicked off of that base permanently by the base commander, all the guys in my unit wanted to know what my 'secret' was so they NEVER had to go there again. Then there's the story about the contractors that got fined $50k for running over some of those 'endangered' purple flowers...

I would absolutely LOVE to know how you got that done...anyone that can get themselves banned form the armpit of CAARNG gets big points from me...

Funny they worry about some purple flower when the entire place burned a few years ago. Everything...weeds, grass, purple flowers. But I suppose it doesn't surprise me. At Fort Irwin, in the training areas, if you even disturb the Desert Tortoise it's like a $10k fine...

I personally like Camp SLO. The area is nicer, can drive up to Morro Bay and SLO the city itself. The DFAC is at Camp SLO is alot nicer too.

At Camp Roberts, I just ate chow and MRE's in the field and slept in a MOUNT house. So I didn't have the full "experience" of the barracks there.

SLO is a lot better...been there and the DFAC is very nice. Roberts just needs to turn into a museum. Dedicated to the days of yester-decade.

Back then the base commander's wife had some special ed kids working at Chez Bob (what we called that burger joint that was open during the busy summer months) and they over heard me and a couple of other guys talking/joking and they misinterpreted it as us making fun of them and their disabilities (we had no idea that they were special ed kids at the time, my daughter is actually a special ed kid so I would never make fun of them, a lot of them try REALLY hard to do as much as they can). It wasn't 10 minutes before we were talking to MP's about it but sadly they let us off with a warning from the Col. hisself. Had it been any other time my big mouth would have made the difference but I was out of work and needed the money so...

Funny thing you mention March AFB. I went on there one time to assist with the medical clinic on base. I stood at parade rest while talking to an NCO ( like I should) and they laughed at me.( my first introduction at the clinic) One of the airmen said " c'mon this is the Air Force. You can relax man". Another TSGT told him " No hes in the right. He's doing what he's supposed to do when talking to an NCO. Don't you remember that as a Marine"? Totally different atmosphere.

I saw two female airmen run past a officer with a half assed salute.. Terrible.. I will say the officers cubicles and offices for NCO's looked like a office building in any major fortune 500 company ha ha. Family day had vendors lined up and music playing. I was like wow the USAF really is a countryclub.

Sorry I don't know how to embed it as a visible pic. I followed the directions of another Calgunner, but I can't make it work...

Supposed to go to Camp Roberts in July. Uggh. F that place. I work at Los Al. My unit used to be there then they moved. I promoted out now I drive to March for drill.

the other S hole is Ft. Hunter Ligget a craphole that beats Roberts any day. At least from Roberts you can get to Paso Robles in a half hour.

SLO is cool... Really good food and hot college women. I'm stationed at Los Al, and trust me... "Private Room, shared bath" at Los Al is the penthouse suite compared to SLO. At SLO you get a broom closet and a twin mattress.

I like Roberts because it usually means we get to shoot large things that go boom that Ca wont let us own...

After you guys ETS, go SMR... not nearly as much hurry up and wait... and we usually have things squared away sooner because there are less troops to manage.

Hey hey...just got back from AT in Indiana. At least there, you have the option of a Subway for lunch and the DFAC, for cafeteria food, is actually really good. A modern facility, kinda like SLOs new DFAC.

But the training areas have a wrinkle we don't have: Ticks. Big friggin thirsty ones.

And chiggers....I had to turn myself into my own mobile hazmat site just to keep them off me.

How you guys doing?
