Apologies if this is a dupe post, but both Walmartís in Salinas are no longer selling ammo:

Completely chicken****. I donít know how many many hundreds of dollars Iíve spent there on ammo since they opened on Boronda Rd. Closest Walmart is in Gilroy now.

Again, sorry if this is old news to you all, I didnít know and came by to pick up some more 7.62x39. Thankfully I stocked up in the last couple of years. Iím not driving to Gilroy.

Canít believe they caved on this.

i went to davis road this morning and the ammo case is gone. once gilroy starts selling ammo again you might want to reconsider going there but less often and bigger purchases. the 762 by 39 at walmart is i think $9.47 a box of 40 and i saw the same ammo at turners today and its close to 15 bucks. and i totally understand the frustration as between the 2 salinas wallmarts, ive spent over 30 grand on ammo in the last 5 years. this was a corporate decision as the store managers had no input prior to the decisions coming down a few weeks back.

Thanks for the info; Iím glad now I stocked up a few boxes a week since 2012 or so, about the same time frame as you, but Iím sure I havenít spent more than 4-5k from all sources both the stores and online in that time. (Youíve made a hell of an investment!)

Still, I had bought quite a bit from both Walmartís, and itís irritating as hell they just shut everything down.

What I didnít get in loaded ammo I got in reloading components, so Iíll make it up there, but it still sucks.

yep, it stinks. and i know boronda walllys on the average did a real good amount of bussiness on ammo. the store manager told me it was significant. hopefully gilroy steps up and keeps the desireable stuff in stock in good amounts.

finally made it up to gilroy walmart today. had a decent amount of ammo and had bulk 22 and even non lead 22 mag ammo. the 22 was on the bottom shelf inline with the register/not in same aisle with rest of ammo. lady said they only stock at night. so she said there was more ammo in the back but couldnt go look what it was. hopefully it gets better as they have a gold mine if they keep stuff stocked.

Over the weekend I spoke to the manager at Boronda, and she was a bit upset; said they were losing $2k a _day_ in ammo sales. Not sure about the west ridge store.

She also said that ammo availability at the Gilroy store should be good as they will be diverting ammo that used to go to the Salinas stores up there.

By the way, she said she thinks they made the decision as to which stores to close based on the crime rate! Gilroy had one murder last year, while Salinas had 30 or so public service killings of gang members. I donít know if that was their logic or not, just her opinion.

All I know is Iím not driving to Gilroy; if I want to add to my pile Iíll pick some up from Dickís as they always seem to have plenty.

yeah, i posted all the stuff from the manager here somewhere, lol. the crime rate statistics were one thing used in which stores quit selling ammo according to the memo from corporate.not sure where you live but as im in prunedale it isnt far to gilroy wallys for me. at normal prices if i spend 100 bucks or more on ammo in a trip to gilroy, ive still saved money over buying ammo at dicks, turners or big five in salinas . and this is including the price of gas. just got to watch the sales etc as certain ammo can be cheaper here than wallys at times but not the norm. also stuff like 10 mm etc isnt at wallys.

Good points if you bulk buy, I usually just buy a couple boxes of .22 and 9 mm now so look for coupons or sales at Dickís. I am not as far north as you, so if I was spending more it would be worth the trip up there.

understood. also be glad you aint the sick puppy i am as far as the ammo hoarding/ buying mania, lol. on that note.... went by dicks this morning and they had no ammo on sale and then to turners and they had some stuff on sale. the tulammo 762 by 39 box of 40 is on sale basically just a buck higher than what i paid at walmart yesterday. so not bad. is there any certain stuff you are lookin for? if so ill let you know if i see it at walmart as i will most likely be taking at least one trip a week there if not more, lol.

Thanks, no I just keep a lookout for bargains, stuff on sale, bulk stuff I can always put away. I appreciate the offer anyway.

I donít think you can have too much! I have a feeling it will get worse shortly...

you are welcome. and i agree with it getting worse for ammo. its just been one ammo crisis after another in california and as you said i see more in the future . heck i have a pretty decent amount ( in most peoples minds)stockpiled but i just cant quit getting more. i have a few thousand rounds of 380 and i dont own a weapon in that caliber yet. and i am most likely gonna acquire a 10 mm real soon so then i have to start getting ammo in that calibre. so gun shows here i come, lol.

went to gilroy walmart this morning before 8 and the ammo case was the same it was on wednesday. the clerk came with his till and then went in the back and looked for ammo for me. it was on a pallett and hadnt been stocked this past week. he said they are in transition in the sporting goods area with a temporary manager who is going to revitalize the whole sporting goods section. going to add new cases and start getting more ammo etc. he said he expects the ammo situation to be new and improoved in about 2 weeks. they didnt have the 762 by 39 i was after but i did grab 500 rounds of federal 9mm for i think $103.00 out the door. they had bulk 22 and said no limit.

Thanks for the update!

I haven’t been back to Gilroy since the day they started reselling. I need to pick up some .45 ammo.

All you have to do to check out your ammo at your favorite WW is to find it under the ammo section of Walmart website and click on it. The last number in the address is what you are looking for. Just delete the end number of any of the links above with the number of what you are looking for. Simple. Except WW doesn't list all their items. Any problems understanding, PM me and I'll walk you through it.

Again, brickseek isn't foolproof but what I like is it gives the price too.

Almost like BrassBadger of years ago.

PS: You can also use the search function in any of the links above "Need help finding an SKU? Search here" but it's not very complete.

Wow, not even .04 cents a round! 4 years ago that box would have sold online for $65-$70. As much as I have I would actually buy a couple at that price if I didnít have to drive up there.

Come to think of it Iím going to San Jose Saturday so will stop by on the way up.

Thanks for the heads up!

Iíve seen those pretty regularly at a couple of places; what no one seems to be able to find are P-01 compact models.

Yes the P-01 is very rare. I picked mine up in a trade. I've seen the 97B in stores too!

If you can get in there between now and Thursday, and are willing to wait in line, Turners in Salinas has some great prices during their Grand Opening sale. They do have the 97B available as well.

Stuff doesnít have to be in stock to qualify for the sale. I put a deposit down on a new G29SF yesterday (to go with the 30S upper I picked up from a great guy here), and got the pistol for almost $60 off their normal price.

Went to Turners last week to pick up a box of .357 Sig target ammo, box of 50. Non-defense, 125 gr. metal jacket stuff. FORTY-FIVE dollars, plus tax, nearly $50 out the door. They also want $31 for $20 rounds of defense JHPís.

This ammo is $14.50 to a max of $22 online, so Iím just supposed to believe itís coincidence that theyíre bending us over charging a 300% premium immediately following the no ship to CA law. The guy also told me how no one shoots .357 Sig anymore, implying I should get with the times. Uh, maybe because it easily generates at least 100 ft lbs more than a 180 gr .40 S&W?

Went to Big 5 and got $20 rounds of Sig Sauer defense JHPís for $18, saving $13, then drove to Hunterís Supply in Seaside where they sell target .357 Sig for $19.99 a box. 100 rounds cost me less than 50 rounds at Turners.

Turners does have good prices from time to time when they run specials, but they really put it to you for everything else. Their 10 mm was also $11 a box more than even Big 5, which was surprising.

Thanks for the tip on the .357 Sig!

Hell, $7.47 is the old CCI price from like 2-3 years ago, not bad at all.

youre welcome. yeah the mini mags have remained the same price for several years at walmart now. and the tulammo 762 by 39 is $9.74 i think per 40 round box. they reduced the price per round several years ago when they went from 20 to 40 round boxes and it has stayed the same price since.

turners has fiocchi 44 mag for $31.98 a 50 round box which is 7 bucks cheaper than the lowest 44 mag at walmart. also turners in salinas had some perfecta 38 special friday at $14.98 per box so i grabbed a case/1000 rounds. not sure how much more they had left. gonna try to check out gilroy wally next week.

went to big 5 yesterday to peek at ammo as i just bought a 10mm handgun. turners was cheaper than big five on the 50 round boxes of 10mm. and i saw federal 525 round boxes of federal 22 at big five for 35 bucks and this same ammo is at walmart in 550 round boxes for under 20 bucks. i will check out hunters for the 10 mm when i can get over to monterey.

Thanks for the info. Under $20 for the 550 boxes at WM? Thatís like prices a few years back.

What 10mm did you get? I just bought a 29SF and am getting a G20 upper for my full sized G21.
