Same problem here. 5.45mm is interesting because ammo is still cheap. But I really want a shrike.

I have "a few" extra lowers and no clue what to do with them right now. But, have you considered getting a .510DTC/50BMG upper? I'd say go 50 or go rimfire.

Hey, a dozen are different colored poly paperweights and, there are some pretty strong oak trees around here I could use.

here`s a suggestion...build a featureless 5.56 rifle with no bullet button for home defense.

A fully decked-out 22LR upper is not cost effective vs a complete gun like a S&W 15-22.

During the previous two ammo shortage periods, 40 S&W seemed always available. So a 40S&W upper is good insurance.

i had a thread awhile back about the 15-22 route but was advised to go 22lr upper. i got 2 ruger takedowns for my kids instead.
im likely going to build it into a 16" 6.8spc
also planning a 9-11" 300aac upper for my pistol
and going the 80% route for a 20" 308

tentatively, at least

I've been getting into this whole AR thing for just a few months now and still don't understand the purpose of having multiple lowers if you're the only one that is gonna use it. Having 1 lower(or 2 for featureless) and multiple uppers makes more sense to me. Maybe I'll "get it" in a few more months but that might be too late lol.

A real live woman is more expensive than a fleshlight. Which would you rather have?

BTW, I have 2 dedicated .22lr uppers. One, a CZ made VZ22 was $150 in the market place and it came with a fake point and a 3X magnifier. Plus, it had BUIS and a quad rail on it. Now, it just has a basic Houge free float tube. The other one, cost me $250. Oh, both came with a couple extra mags. Anyway, a $50 Anderson lower, a $29.99 LPK, $40 for a cheap stock and buffer tube and $150 for a used upper with extras is definitely more cost effective than an almost but not quite AR look a like that can't accept any other uppers. Yea, except for the upper, those are current prices or, at least advertised prices within the last two weeks.

My 7.63 X 39 is one of my favorite range toys. Cheap to feed and a blast to shoot. Bushy upper, Wolf extra heavy hammer spring, and ASC mags and it runs just fine.

Light too at less than 7 pounds.
