I shot in a pistol match last Thursday, and got beaten up pretty badly.

Today I went back out to the range to sight in my gun, a Springfield Armory loaded 1911 9mm.

This was my first target. My point of aim was at the 6 o'clock position on the black ring.

Then I adjusted the rear sight all the way to the left, no change.

My friend Kirby (who's a gunsmith said, let me take a look at it)

This may be the problem.

After a few more shots, I heard a "bing".

Problem solved

Oh, and the reason the my 9mm gun wouldn't go into battery a few times, was there were a few 38 super rounds mixed in with my 9mm ammo (they're longer).

I'm not quite the gun fighter I thought I was

You should have aimed at the 9 o’clock position on the black. New night sights are in your future I presume...

Well....I can tell you, getting out and shooting in a match is doing more than 95% of most pistol owners.

So.....congrats.

As far as equipment failures...just part of the game. Fix it and keep shooting.

I am 50 and just switched to open devision in USPSA after not shooting a pistol in a match in over two years.
My go fast days are behind me, but I still have fun.

Hey you been spouting off about no need for a front sight for years....so what's the problem?

Who installed those Dawsons? I knew those weren't the stock SA front sights. They stake those suckers in pretty well.

I've got the Dawson. My buddy (the gunsmith) is going to stake it, and red loctite in for me.

how is your POA/POI on gun? and tight group?
I also have the 9mm loaded, but the original barrel was terrible, no group at 7 yard, so I ended up getting a new barrel and bushing fitted.

I started shooting IPSC/USPSA when I lived in Arizona back in 80's. I used to shoot with a kid named Rob Leatham. He was pretty good back then.

First I shot an Ed Brown .45 that Ed built himself. It was a piece of ****. Then a Springfield Armory P9 for years, then my eyes got bad.

I shot that P9 so much, the barrel broke in front of the chamber.

Now I'm a shotguner

Glad you found the root cause. I recall someone having accuracy issues with their 9mm 1911, but enjoyed shooting it so much that they ended up getting a new Fusion slide. It supposedly shot like it was a laser.
https://www.brownells.com/handgun-pa...94-212033.aspx

Edit: wrong slide assembly.
