They announced that they will be taking over the lunches with their own mobile unit similar to Beach Cafe. The unit was parked behind the Admin trailer. They expected the permit to come through by end of February.

I know that this has been asked before, but the answers I have read seem that there is no consensus that it is of good value. Thoughts?

According to the invite, one can get a slot for private training one month in advanced. Is this true? I have read that for some people the waiting list is a few months' out. Are you only limited to scheduling a 1-day training? How about 2-days or more? (considering making good use of the time spent driving to/from Pahrump)

For the content, I would guess that it covers the whole gamut of courses (or should I say, weapons platform) that are taught at Front Sight.

For some of you that have the "private training" luxury - how many times a year do you go?

Hhhmmm... Basically, I am still on the wall on this one. Unlimited private training sounds good - that said, Pahrump is just too far a drive.

Thoughts anyone?

PS: I guess I missed the "upgrade" opportunity for just $1K.

They are pretty flexible with the classes. You can schedule whatever timeframe you want - 1 day, 4 day, etc.
I’ve used it several times last year. Weekends fill up faster than mid week. You may have to wait months for weekend. But then you just keep scheduling on a regular basis after that (can book up to 6 months in advance).

It’s everything it says it is, the only drawbacks have been it’s “too” good:
If it’s just you it can been intense in that you might feel I like you’re done in a day or two. A 4 day private would be too much for me. Going with a few friends who have private is much better.

But if you’re bent on getting a ton of good training, it’s a good deal.

If you haven’t been I wouldn’t practice as they start everyone in the basic class from the beginning.
I would highly recommend ammo supply warehouse. Good folks and good prices.

Wife and I do 2 private classes a year average. We have one next month. The quality depends on who your instructor is.

You can book 6 months in advance.

We like it.

others can chime in, but i'd think that 9am arrival is too late for day #1. you'd still park, most probably far from the registration. you'd need to gear up, then head up to get registered and safety inspected, etc. you'd probably be actually late for at least 90-mins.

hence, i came in the afternoon/night before...

Correct, arriving at 9 am on Day one of your course would not go over well.
Instructors are done with registration and weapons inspection by 8 o'clock and you'll have missed the introduction in the classroom and not have all your paperwork filled out and signed.

If it's a private class, then no problem. Just let registration know of your start time.

I'm curious if anyone else here remembers being told by instructors that in preparation for the changes in prerequisites coming with the marksmanship class that they were "grandfathering in" anyone who got a DG in Practical Rifle before Jan 1st of 2019?

A friend, and myself were told this by multiple instructors in 4 separate classes in 2018. I tried to register for a precision rifle class on Monday and was told by the office that "I would have needed to attend Precision Rifle in 2018 for that to be the case". Another friend tried to register under the same pretenses and was told by the office they had never heard of anyone being told that, or anyone thinking that was the case.

If that only applied to courses in 2018 why would they have wasted time telling everyone about it? Has anyone else had luck getting into a Precision rifle course this year with a DG in rifle instead of the new Marksmanship course?

I was there in September 2017. 4DDHG course and we had temps between 110 and 115 for 4 days. Never again for me. Right now as I’m writing this, we spent the day on range 27 where the temperature never went above 45 plus we had wind. 2 days prior cold temps and rain. Try for a spring trip.

March, April, maybe first part of May, October, and November are the times that I have found that the weather is better. Other than that I don't have enough cold weather clothes for January and in the summertime I don't think Front Sight will let me shoot in my underwear.

^^^ Hahaha. You can layer plenty of clothes, use electric socks, wear a baclava, chemical hand and body warmers etc. for the winter, but for the summer, you can only strip down so much. Classes with mandatory concealment are that much more challenging.

Looks like if you signed up in 2018 for a future Precision Rifle course before the Marksmanship class prerequisite, you would have been okay.

My complete beginner wife came away being able to perform safe handling of firearms - chamber/magazine check, tactical/emergency reloads, as well, the different malfunction drills. Although she started day #1 not being able to properly control the recoil (her obvious trembling just before taking a shot shows it all), to day #2 having lots of malfunctions due to limp wristing; ended with her being comfortable with the Glock by day #4. Although she will only be getting the certificate of achievement for the 2-Day Defensive Handgun because she had to miss day #3 with our youngest developing a fever - I would say that she had a very educational experience. Now, me wishing that she'd get into firearms going forward... Considering that she is now eligible to take the Skill Builder 2-day class. Hehehe...

As for me, I finished the test with a DG (there were several of us). I got a "Snowman" (only me) on the shooting part of the test, albeit with 6-points down for missing the time (I wonder which ones), and a 0-down on the handling/malfunctions part.






Thanks for the advice!!! This is what I told myself many times, in spite of being discouraged by head shot misses during the practice run just before the test... Frustrating to make precision shots with big fat stock Glock sights.



In the man-on-man part of day #4 - I reached the finals, against another complete beginner (the more experienced/skillful shooters were just eliminating themselves by shooting the hostage... hahaha!!!)

And since the finals was more like an experienced shooter VS beginner - you could imagine the crowd going crazy, ie., betting on the newbie, "psyching" me out that the shooting order is "GRAY-yellow-red-blue." Hahaha!!!

As Murphy would have it - BOTH of us eliminated ourselves by shooting the hostage. Yeah! Oh, well...

UPDATE 10:26pm: I got to review the video (?!?) that a co-student had sent to me. I did NOT the miss the hostage! The mark on the gray area was from the bullet impacting the yellow. It was a clear shot... But then, since videos are supposedly not allowed - there goes my the price (some coin???). https://www.instagram.com/p/BrjUaykH5gk/



After the competition, the instructors allowed as sort-of a "grudge match" from an unloaded and holstered handgun (is this part of the curriculum?). And for some reason, some of the other skilled shooters were asking me to go against them (it seems because of my speed). As luck would have it - I won those matches, and hence, seemingly developed a reputation in my class. Hahaha!!

Anyways, it was a FUN 4-days!!! In particular is the last day where the students started loosening up and interacting more with their classmates.

And sadly it's back to Komiefornia tomorrow...

PS: I tipped the range master, the instructor, the line coach, and the other staff (4 of them) that took care of our kids, individual boxes of ammo. As most of you have mentioned, they are very much appreciative of it... Yeah, they indeed did an awesome job! I learned stuff that I can incorporate to my practice regime. In spite of what others say about Front Sight, I would definitely say that their curriculum/approach is worth emulating.
