10X fixed for learning ???
Hey, got a few more questions here. I am looking for a learning/budget/value scope. I have been shooting my whole life but never really with scopes. Anyway I am looking for something I can learn with on a LR308. I am really considering a fixed power scope. I shoot a lot but only at 2 ranges. The one closest to my house is 50-200 and the other is up to 400m. So I am assuming 99% of my shooting with this gun will be 100-400m. I am also just getting into reloading so will be playing around W/ different loads. Will a 10X scope be ideal for this type of shooting (I don’t hunt)? My only real want as of now is mil/mil. My budget is >$400 W/rings. I have been looking at the SWFA SS10X42($300). Do you guys think this would be a good budget/quality compromise based on the type of shooting I plan to do? Would you suggest I go another route?
Also, any ideas on good value rings? I honestly haven’t even looked yet. |

The SWFA 10x will serve you well.
Try to find some used or like new nightforce, seekins, aadland rings. If you must buy new... i hear TPS is decent, but i'd personally spend the extra $20-30 for one of the previously mentioned set of rings. |

I use the SWFA 10X, works fine for me. Ring wise, I like my stuff to hold zero, so I use STEEL rings. Mine are Nightforce, I think I paid around $100+ for mine. I like my rings to be as low as possible, I got the mediums. Just barely had clearance (save the receipt incase you have to return them).
Good luck!

A 10X scope will work fine. I have a Bushnell Elite 10X40 and a SS 16X50. The Bushnell has better optics. The glare in the Super Sniper is worse than average.
You don't need to spend a lot on rings if the scope tube is either 1" or 30 mm. This guide lists several good choices for less than $50/pair: http://www.highpoweroptics.com/ring-...uide-i-91.html Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

For paper punching, the 10x SS will be fine. I used to carry one to matches, as a back up, but never had to use it. For hunting, I would recommend a 3x9, 4x12 or a fixed 4x though.

http://www.bushnell.com/Bushnell/med...ter-rebate.pdf $50 off at Midway, Bushnell rebate is $75 off. You get the scope for half price. Rebate ends the 15th of Nov. |

Bushnell 3200 10x in Leupold PRW rings sitting on a 1 piece Weaver base. Total investment of about $300.00. The SWFA 10x is also an excellent scope for the money, the Bushnell does not have paralax adjustment but I've never needed it.
Rifle and Dog are optional. |

I have a SS 10x42 in a LaRue SPR series mount. It is about $100 over what you're looking at spending, but the flexibility is worth it for me.
Also, unless you are shooting at the same distance 100% of the time, I would opt for an adjustable parallax scope and get in the habit of checking parallax each and every time you lay your head down behind a scope.

How long have you been using those rings? Have you had any problems with them? Would you purchase them again?

I have been using the Leupold PRW and QRW rings for a few years now in both 1" and 30mm. They are solid and I like the look of them.
