Yeah sure, your only AR...funny joke there. I was saying the same crap 12 years ago when I got my first rifle.

Your custom build is mainly going to be to make yourself feel good. In all honesty the more basic and standard AR you get will probably be the most reliable. Look at military and police, they carry pretty standard high quality rifles because you really donít need all that fancy crap to get the job done.

Ignore above if youíre going to do some type of target, hunting, or competition...then the fancy parts will show the difference more so, but in reality even a basic rifle with a couple mods will get you 90% of the way to where you need to be.

You can build a crappy one if you put in the effort to buy no-name stuff probably made in China, but it's really easy, and hardly more expensive, to buy decent name brand stuff.

Thanks for your time.

Aero makes good parts. I donít use any now, but I have in the past. I, like many others here, have spent 15 years researching, learning & building AR platforms. Iíve watched companies come into existence & blossom...like Spikes, like Aero, like PSA....and Iíve chosen specific parts for all of my rifles & pistols now. And just as many others here..I believe MY specific amalgamation of parts is BEST!

Until you have this kind of experience, places like Aero will supply quality parts for good prices.

Iím more than happy to search & provide some parts links when you are ready, and help in any way I can. Just PM me when itís time.

3)I know I could build a rifle a lot cheaper, but I feel that this would be a really nice, quality rifle, with a high value because I kept so many of the parts from a few, specific, highly rated manufactures. How do you guys feel about it. Is this going to be a beautiful gun?.
Honestly itís going to look and perform like every run of the mill aero precision ar-15 out there. You claimed you wanted something that will out perform a complete rifle purchase but you are buying a complete upper.

Iíve assembled quite a few ARs, in many different calibers, some cost $2000 some cost $700. The ar I shoot the most is my Ruger ar-556 with just a modified GI trigger... why? Cause it cost me $450 and I can beat the pants off it and it just keeps going. Itís as accurate as any ar to 100 yards and gives me no issues. The upper you are purchasing in my opinion has no advantage over my $450 complete rifle. If thatís truly the route you want to take and not put your money into a barrel and bolt carrier group then I would just buy a complete Smith and Wesson m&p 15 or Ruger ar-556 and drop a trigger in it you could always modify more later on.

IDK where you can buy a CA legal, Featureless rifle for $450. My local shop doesnt carry anything under $1000 (Northbay is about as anti gun as it gets)

I ABSOLUTELY HATE the way fins on grips look/perform so what ever prebuilt gun I would buy, I would be changing the grip which is over $120 and then I'd probably have to change the stock so the grip would be compatible.

Don't know if this was something you looked at. Might of saved a couple bucks on this platform. In my eyes .223 wylde better barrel, but that's just my opinion.

Very good. And now the fun starts.

I remember building my FIRST AR in ‘05-‘06. I thought I might build one more maybe. LOL! I’ve lost count at this point! I’m actually doing another 80% currently!

I’m happy for you...but you are starting something you won’t ever be able to stop! 2 things in a mans life like that. LOL!

Is the Epsilon now okay in CA? I know at one point it was said to have flash hiding prongs or capabilities or whatever, but then they took the wording out of the description. I wanted an Epsilon, but it didn't seem clear whether or not it was good to go for featureless...

It's a combination of flash hider, compensator, and muzzle brake per manufacturer website. Since it is flash hider, I would think that it will still be considered as such in CA.

Most likely not since the cage device is removable.
I had thought of using a similar device over my AAC FH which is called AAC blast diverter. Consensus on here is that its still a FH even though you placed a cover over it.

That was the impression I got (in regards to being a flash hider), so I went with the Gamma. Again, it used to even say something about flash hiding, then they took the wording out. It was too much of a question for me.

Disregard the wording being taken out, it still mentions the flash hiding prongs.

"...This is a true combination muzzle brake / compensator / flash hider. Its performance is matched only by the amazing look of this device.

The VG6 Epsilon 556 carries many of the same characteristics as the Gamma 556 with a few exceptions. Extended flash hiding prongs and no ports at the 12 o'clock positions allow uninhibited view from flash through optics or sights..."

Personally, I find the Surefire 3P Eliminator to be the best performing, best looking attachment available. I’ve used it on every build for 5 years now. Too bad it performs the ULTRA DANGEROUS & DEADLY task of DREADED “FLASH HIDING”!! Otherwise more could take advantage. Surefire does also make a brake attachment which is nice as well. I’ve used it as well.

Judging by his muzzle brake on the upper, maybe he decided to do maglock instead of featureless

I know....how about everyone just stop POINTING OUT ridiculous laws. I did a thread once about people showing pictures of their silencer, and those DOUCHEBAGS who immediately ask in the thread, “Do you have a TAX STAMP for that BRO!” (You all know who you are that do this!) Don’t be that DOUCHEBAG!

BLQQD, good choices man! Can’t wait to see the finale. I just finished another build and updated my thread with pics. And I’m already thinking about starting yet another! LOL!

Truly is addictive! But SOOO much fun! Be mindful if you ever get into 80% Lowers & machining! I like building more than shooting! LOL!

Isn't that the truth. Cars, guns, computers, etc. I find that most of the time I spend money just to have a project to do.

I know I said I would stop commenting in this thread (mostly for my own sanity) but this comment compelled me to say something.

Maybe this lost and confused young'un doesn't know about the legality of telescoping versus fixed stocks, and where all the gray zone issues are, and therefore wasn't able to make an educated guess as to the level of risk based on legal interpretation that he was willing to accept.

Maybe (or actually clearly from the post language) he didn't know his device had flash hider functionality and therefore could make his AR qualify as a California Statutory Assault Rifle.

Telling people to stifle discussion on legality in the presence of a young'un that clearly was so lost and confused that he had to make multiple threads on the same topic and just do whatever the heck he damn well pleases because you're tired of seeing it is simultaneously some of the most irresponsible and selfish advice I think I've heard on this forum. It's one thing if the kid KNOWS about legality issues and is practicing civil disobedience towards unconstitutional laws, it's an entirely different thing if he has no idea he is running afoul of said unconstitutional laws in the first place, has a desire to comply with said laws, is merely unaware of the laws in question, and people are bringing up meaningful discussion on the subject so as to help make sure said young'un stays in compliance.

I have nothing against civil disobedience against unconstitutional laws that strip away every human's natural, God-given rights guaranteed at birth. But if people want to comply and others want to help people comply, that should not be suppressed either.

Ok, now I'm 100% out, and not just from commenting. I clicked because I was curious if the kid ever actually got around to building something, but after this I'm not even gonna click to read this thread.
