Default Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 legal in ca?

Just like the title says, looking at ordering one online and wondering if they are legal or not. Thanks

The CA model comes with a 10 round mag. You can order any of the other ones but your ffl will have to pin the mag before giving it to you. They normally charge for that, was ten bucks for me. I might have two for sale soon if this other builds goes through.

Oh yeah and receiving from out of state is usually an extra charge on top of everything. Seen as high as 100 more.

It is a 22 cal rifle and as such is not currently affected by featureless/fixed mag/registration foolishness. The only issue to check on is it having 10 round or 10/30 blocked magazines.

It is a fun rifle. Good luck!

Most local gun stores sell them.

I don’t know where you are at but in So Cal, Turners regularly has them for sale.

For me, local store was cheaper than buying online and shipping to me.

- Online : rifle cost + shipping cost + FFL cost + sale tax + DROS cost .
- Everywhere in CA: $400 + sale tax + DROS. ($400 + $40 +$25= $465 OTD) . Plus don't worry about CA legal.

My local ffl charges $50 for a receiving transfer. Plus $25 for the dros, and of course has to collect tax on what you paid for it if coming from outside CA. Also, you will need to deal with the mag issue. 10rd max in ca, I have 10/25 oem mags I got from brownells.

Might be cheaper to just have your local ffl order it for you, then it's an in house sale, and no transfer fee, and will come with mags that wont accept more than 10 rds.

Yes, it is legal. It does not apply to AW standards as it isn't a semi-auto, centerfire. It can have all the features you want.

I actually built a 22lr dedicated upper on an Aero M4E1 AR15 lower. It uses S&W MP15-22 mags

Great gun. I shoot the crap out of mine and it’s just a consistent tack driver.

Yes, it's legal.

Bought a M&P 15/22 Performance Center Model online at GunGrabber and had it sent to my FFL for DROS. No problem.

Yes, it is legal and as rim fire, does not fall under the AW law.
Gun Mag Warehouse has the 10/30 magazines on sale from time to time. Mine is a few years old, now I see them for north of $150 for what I paid for mine. My model is the 2nd gen.

I ordered one to my FFL and they just had to charge me to block the mag before handing it to me. And also to receive sometimes it's cheaper to just buy it through them but mine couldnt get the special one I wanted.
