Ok. Yeah the matching number underfolders will be awesome on these. I personally like the brush finish look. I got my first 2 today and there awesome. I think I will match the dimensions from the front of the mag well to the front of the receiver off of Curtis's flats then proceed to do the same off of the back of the grip screw opening to the back of receiver. I have had good fitting from Curtis's flats so i think this is a good option.

I got my 2 today also. They feel beefier than the akbuilder flats for some reason.

What shall we harness them to? Horses, oxen, camels.....Sasquatch?

sorry couldn't resist. Haven't poked any holes in mine yet, but I'm going to assume they are as soft a curtis's flats right now.

Drag a file across it. You be able to tell from a pice of mild steel or one of Curtis's flats. The softer cuts easier with the file.

And you can't really do a hardness test on sheet metal at least not on a standard Rockwell machine. You need a minimum thickness and I believe it's .125"

there gtg, as good as curtis flats, yes you will still need to heat treat them. i wish they were not belt sanded as they will be a pain to smooth out, wonder how they look after parking.

It's really not very deep. A few minutes in the blast cabinet(you were gonna blast before you park RIGHT?) and they'll look just like any other receiver.

Got mine, selector marks seem a bit small and not very deep. Maybe that's how the Polish AK's were done?

I lined up the rear of the blank and an AK Builder flat, and everything was good, and the cuts matched. I did trim the front down just slightly to bring it closer to the flats length. In the next pic you will notice that the mag well cut out on the blank is not complete. The cut for the trigger is also shorter than the AK Builder. This is how the flat should orient on the Polish blank. Then you just open up the rear of the mag well in the blank to match.

Can anybody explain all the enthusiasm for these? When I was researching the DIY-AK I found threads back 6 or 7 years ago about bent receivers. Consensus of opinion was they were a PIA compared to AK builder flats. It was faster to bend it than to have to layout and drill all the holes and other openings.

The only thing I can see different now, is using one of Curtis's flats for a template to layout the holes. That would make it a LOT easier to get everything in the correct location.

Other than the aesthetics or new experience, is there any difference between the two - akbuilder and these Polish ones?

I only see dust cover trimming when people recess the front and/or rear trunions in past flush with receiver. By time they find a dust cover issue, its too latr to tell them they have riveted the trunions in too far.

I forsee this write up as another sticky "How to" thread!

Or I can only hope with a dozen inbound for BP guests.

Hey, guys. With this pre-bent Polish receiver, will any AK47 parts kit work? i.e.:Polish, Romanian, Bulgarian, etc. or does it have to be Polish?

Thank you!

No. The mag well is the wrong size. Hang back and keep your eyes on gunsmithing. apparently there's a bunch of similar 74 receivers coming in soon.

Not right off the top of me head. check out straykiller's website classifiedweapons.com. It's got links to nearly every company selling any kind of gun parts kit.

Whatacountry.com has matching romy G kits with original barrel for 359. A bit steep but they aren't getting cheaper

You could get a Polish PMKMS kit from What A Country as well plus a Romanian barrel from Apex.

Mag lock or grip wrap. The choice is yours and there are other places to get those items but I believe AK-Builder has the Solar tactical mag locks.

ENJOY !!
I assumed he was using one of the Polish bent shells. Good call on the compliance parts. I recommend the US made slant brake and furniture. You can get some good US made wood from Ironwood designs, a California company or my favorite for the ease of acquisition a take off set of K-Var US made furniture.

ENJOY !!
Just doing a quick count and I believe I should be ok....
1. Muzzle device I'll add a slant ak brake
2. Barrel
3. Gas piston
4. Handguards
5. Trunion (this is the front trunion, the rear trunion does not count)
6. Bolt carrier
7. Bolt
8. Receiver (assuming the Polish receiver becomes US made when I complete the build(?))
9. Pistol grip
10. Buttstock
11. Hammer
12. Sear
13. Trigger

14. Magazine body
15. Mag. Floorplate
16. Mag. follower

Also, for mags I was thinking of getting/making some 10/30 magazines and I have seen a $10 magazine lock on Amazon which is removable (a plus since I'm going back and forth from CA and Idaho).

Will a polish under-folder work with this receiver? Sorry about all the questions, I've never been this stoked about building a rifle!

Yes. You'll just have to layout and cut the openings for the UF mechanism.

I was debating between the Romanian and the Polish... I finally settled on the Romanian so I logged in after work tonight only to find they were out of stock - kind of a shock since there were like 15 of them on Friday. So I sprinted on the Polish kit with a installed chrome lined barrel. Sadly it looks like someone cleaned ak-builder out of all the 1 mm center supports
