Any shooting summer camps in NorCal?
My 15 year old son is very interested in shooting. I take him to the range and we have a 10-22 for him to use right now. Summer is coming and I was wondering if anyone was aware of a weeklong or so summer camp centered on shooting, both gun handling and range time would be great. Thanks.

Look into the Appleseed project (they have a sub-forum on calguns and rimfire central).
Castro Valley sells out months in advance. Sacremento offers more dates and with fewer students, I got way more one on one time with the instructors. Edit - "weeklong" my bad I read weekend. Still look into Appleseed they do offer a weeklong bootcamp.

It's not in California, but for true shooting summer camp in 2014 (2012 and 2013 are full) try the NRA program here http://www.nrawc.org/adventure/index.html. Sorry no local Camp Bus service. Looking at the PDF flyer, they teach the kids how to shoot .50 BMG.
You might be able to camp there as a family if space is available. Of course, you would have to see what activities you can do alone. I'd call them and get the scoop if you can get out of CA. Otherwise some Boy Scouts camps offer shooting, but he would need to join. |

I'm just gonna say this:
As a boy scout, last year when I got my rifle shooting merit badge, there really wasn't much range time (20 minutes I think), which was really disappointing. It's super expensive, ($1 for ten rounds of 22 LR), you only get single shot rifles that normally are falling apart, and the range masters can be a real hassle (as in really really stupid/retarded). So I would suggest Apple Seed, all the way. That program is da BOMB. You'll shoot more AND get the basics down faster, and with a better teacher.
