New Project
Picked up a Marlin 336 "Leverless" in 30-30, that needs some TLC & parts.
Aquired all the parts but the Lever. My wallet & I can't decide. Stock Lever $65 from Numrich. Loop Lever $96 from Numrich. I like it, but feel it may be too big & waste Safe space. (opinions welcome) Found a custom guy in the back of the Rifleman magazine. Same shape as the standard lever but made bigger. $136 is kind of a drawback. Will refinish the wood in BLO or Tung Oil. Will reblue it since there is some pitting on the reciever & barrel.

Did you check to see if you could get a new big loop lever direct from Marlin?
My new Marlin 1895GBL has their big loop and I really like it - very comfortable to use. My Winchester had the stock lever and I replaced it with the large loop - it's not very practical for me, mostly for looks. I was considering getting another large loop for the Winchester and modifying it down to the Marlin size but they aint cheap anymore.

Some people just heat up and reshape the stock lever, may be an option also.

Browning turned a lever action in to the 1895 belt fed machine gun.
That's a good route to follow. |

PookiesCuppycake never read Dale Carnigie... So Marlin does not sell parts direct. Guess I'm gonna sit on the fence about the lever another day or two... I do want a larger one, just can't decide $96 or $139.....

That 336 is a nice rifle, I really like mine. I think it's worth the effort to bring it back to life.
Well done.

Hmmm...
Loop lever easier to use especially for large handed shooters Use Tru-Oil to refinsh stocks for really nice look and protection. If you wanting the gun just to shoot and not worried about it's resale value have the rifle Cerakoted ...... much tougher finish, Midnight Blue looks just like old fashion blued finish, you can repair pits easy when Cerakoting and best of all ....MUCH CHEAPER and Cerakote DOES NOT require oiling to prevent rust |

I never had any use for the big loops myself. You shoot in mittens much?

Well I picked up a large loop from Numrich for $93.
After stripping off the old finish I reblued w/ Brownell's Oxpho Blue. I really liked using it. Easier than the Birchwood-Casey. It gave a much more even finish. Stripped the furniture & refinished w/ Tung Oil Finish. Now I think I will strip the Lever & match the gun w/ Oxpho Blue.
